Well, like some of us has predicted, "Your Name" is doing it.

It seems as if nothing can stop this movie from continuing to make a sh*t ton of money. But it's nice to see that Shin Godzilla has some long legs as well.

Trajectories have changed! The wind now descends, or at least, it does in the rankings.

Well, I think that Shinkai can beat the Ponyo box-office too easily, if that domination of the top continues at least for another two-three weeks.

That's really impressive, and I can't wait to see the film.
On thing to note, though, is that the amounts of tickets sold is a better measure for the popularity since ticket prices change, or at least box office numbers with inflation taken into account.

Well Your Name sold 9.89 million tickets so far and is the 17th most attended movie in Japan(including foreign movies)
For comparison The Wind rises sold 9.72 million as the 18th most attended movie.

For some reason, this just makes me really happy. From everything I hear, Your Name is everything I want in an anime, and seeing it succeed so much is just great. I just hopes it comes theatrically to Canada.

Your Name is slaying! I thought Silent Voice could be a good competitor but no it is still very far ahead even the author himself is jealous of Shinkai

Can you source that? This is the second time I've heard this, but I haven't seen anything to back it up...

Inflation has been close to zero in Japan for more than two decades now. Local currency is actually a decent enough measure for that market for movies released during or after the 1990s.
