You'd think they'd welcome Pokemon Go as an excuse for bad Japanese driving.

I just hope that, in light of these issues, this won't result in PokéStops being wiped out; there's already been reports in the U.S. of PokéStops being shut down due to pressure from town/city ordinance, rendering Pokémon GO unusable.

In Melbourne someone crashed their car into a school while playing the game. That was even after VicRoads flashed freeway/highway warning signs threatening fines and demerit points.

Threatening someone with fines and points on their license or putting up a warning on a billboard isn't going to stop them from doing something stupid in a car. |

I remember reading about the Brazilian who went on the highway to catch Pokemon, thank god he didn't get hurt, also playing it in crowds of non-trainers is a bad idea as some people can mistaken your game for photography without permission which has resulted in an assault.

Don't know just how feasible it is to ask the developer to stop Pokemon from appearing on freeways and expressways. Seems they are able to control some fixed aspects of the game, but I would think it would be a very daunting and expensive proposition to work on every request.
At some point, it is the players that have to be held responsible for their actions, not the company. |

Well it looks like all of the problems of Pokémon Go that happened in the US are now happening in Japan well I can't say that I didn't see that coming.

That's pretty short-sighted. I can say that the city of Montrose, CA, has become busier than normal lately due to Pokémon GO, as it has an unusually high concentration of PokéStops. Montrose is a pretty small and remote part of Los Angeles, but its government is very proud of its history and has plaques along its streets detailing what used to be there in the past. All of these plaques are PokéStops, and as a result of its ridiculous PokéStop density (as in up to 9 of them per side of each block, to where you could be at one PokéStop and accidentally trigger another one), it's a favorite gathering place for Pokémon GO players who know about it, evidenced in the unusually strong Gyms completely out of proportion with its population. Some of the shops in Montrose even offer discounts and benefits to people who are seen playing Pokémon GO. Unless those cities are trying to remove PokéStops for safety, privacy, and legal reasons, which would be justified. But ALL PokéStops is really weird and sounds like a kneejerk reaction to new technology changing how people behave. |

Since there were Pokemon at the Holocaust Museum and Arlington, it's no surprise that there would be Pokemon at the Nagasaki Peace Park. Seriously what is Niantec thinking.

Well considering one gym here was located at a landmark in the middle of an overpass of a highway and many churches & funeral homes here are pokestops people like to use lures at I can see why some towns are calling to have them removed. Especially smaller towns where tons of new people are congregating. By me in downtown Annapolis on the water by the docks there is 6 pokestops all clumped together. Every night there are hordes of players there using lures on them and walking around. Which might not seem so bad except there are several bars there open late and all the extra traffic has caused hell with motor vehicle traffic there. Especially now that it's boating/tourist season and kids are out of school.

It's truly amazing how a single piece of software can be so disruptive, granted it is the culmination of humanity's greatest technological achievements all combined so that the everyday man can play what is essentially a trivial game.
I think of the days when the first modern graphical interface was developed, and what better way to test it than with a game of Pong. In such a short amount of time we've come a long way. |
