Happy to see the criminally underrated Gokudo get a re-release. One of my favorite shows from the '90s - and the best fantasy comedy this side of Slayers.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking these shows. It's just that these are really obsure shows. Literally... who would want to buy them? There can't be a lot of people.
I wonder how cheap a license for this is..

I'm crossing my fingers for Discotek to pick up Osomatsu-kun (the 1980's series).

Agreed. The English dub is completely hilarious imo. Will definitely be picking it up!

Good Gods and Goddesses, Gokudo is awesome. It took me a long time to track down a set of it I could afford but I may just toss it for this condensed version. That has covers. And the original case. Well, I know why my used copy didn't have the original Media Blasters case as that was a real mess...
While the other show is an obscure unlicensed oddity, Gokudo is a lost classic of the 90s, seldom talked about and underappreciated.
September? Same month as Haruhi? Well, I already have them both but only one has a complete story.
Additional: If they're going to be doing more license announcements, I'd like to see less stuff I already have and more stuff I'm still looking for. Wait, what am I looking for now?
Marmalade Boy, Ultra maniac, Boys Over Flowers and maybe even some stuff that isn't shoujo. I doubt it as I tend to buy a lot of shoujo from diskotek.
Law of Ueki! That's the one! Battle Athletes Victory really needs a license rescue though so if they got it, I wouldn't complain. Much.
Ok, I'd complain a lot; That one was only ever released through 8 separate volumes so buying them more than a decade after they were OOP wasn't easy. And they're not even all under the same label; Half are Pioneeer and the other half are issued with the Geneon name.
You know, forget what I said, license it.

Gokudo, yeah! I just re-watched my original DVDs with my Dad. He didn't like it a lot, though he did find it to be unique and interesting title that stood-out among the copious amounts of anime he's seen and owns himself. It was a hit with my anime club when I took it a few years back and I have always loved it myself. Gokudo is one of the best, quirkiest fantasy shows out there and a great series if you enjoy gender-bending, shapeshifting, body-switching, strange mixes of mythology, visual gags and "Wait, did I just see that? *rewind and pause* Yes, I did see that!" moments and seeing a main character who is just one step away from being a villain protagonist get his appropriate(and often hilarious) comeuppances time and time again. I feel this is a great opportunity, I definitely recommend Gokudo be added to your fantasy anime collection.
Of course, Gokudo is a real a-hole so if you can't stomach following a character like that for 26 episodes you may want to proceed with caution, though the cast members surrounding him are lots of fun in their own ways.

Yeeees Gokudo!! Such a good show. Watched it around 2 years ago and I still remember it fondly, especially because of the amusing english dub. Hilarious stuff, will definitely pick it up.
Koi Koi Seven, eh. Well, I've heard of it and it's in my plan to watch... but that's about it. Guess I'll try it out and see if it's worth buying.

Discotek mostly specializes in licensing older titles, like Lupin III, Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, Galaxy Express 999, and Captain Harlock... the sorts of stuff that gets played in the video rooms of every anime convention since the mid-90s. They have newer stuff, too, but in general you can think of them as a "Golden Oldies" radio station but for anime.

I feel like gokudo would actually have a large group of people who want to buy it. It appeals to fans of classic fair like Tenchi, Slayers, El Hazard, etc. Plus it was released in pretty limited quantity and the dvds are beyond expensive. If they release this for 30 to 50 bucks that would be a steal from the couple of hundred the complete set goes for.
Koi 7 as far as I know never actually got a release here, so while not as big as gokudo for a cheap price I think it can do okay.
Like someone said Discotek specializes in older anime, so its not a surprise.

Either you've been living under a rock (Discotek has licensed a ton of anime especially within the past few years) and/or you don't have any interest in anime made before the year 2000 (what Discotek typically licenses, though they have expanded into more recent material).

With so much praise for Gokudo, I just might have to get it to see what it's all about. Other than that, none of the titles mentioned here are for me, but I'm hoping there'll be one or two next time. I'd especially like to see GoShogun get a release one day.
