Recently, I had decided to sign up for Netflix to utilize the new plug-in on the Xbox 360, that lets you stream all the content that is in your Netflix instant queue. This only counts for content listed in the 'Watch Instantly' section.

It has a pretty decent anime selection and I must admit that I am having a little trouble finding which series I should start with.

Right now, I am finishing up 'Last Exile' which has been a wonderful experience and I am nearing it's finale. Here is a small list of a few animes in the Netflix instant section that I think look like they could be interesting:

Karau: Phantom Memory
I watched the first two episodes of and I think I really like what I've seen so far. For some reason I get the feeling that this one might be a real tear-jerker! I like the complex relationship and emotion that is forming between the two main characters. Seeing how Karau's personality changes when she is reunited with Christmas just touched my heart.

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
I actually saw the first episode of this anime a while back and I remember being very impressed by its almost 'psychedelic' animation. Besides the visuals, I don't think I saw enough of it to form a opinion on plot and character development. However, I foresee some complex character relations ships that can evolve.

Air
I've been wanting to try my hand at this 'slice-of-life' type anime for awhile now. The art and animation looks refreshing and beautiful. It appears to focus on relationships, perspective and feelings, rather then action, gore and violence. This is the kind of content I've been wanting to try and branch out to.

Utawarerumono
I haven't been able to find much information about this anime, but from the scarce amount I've uncovered, it seems like it might be a pretty first-rate anime. It has receive pretty awesome ratings on both Netflix and Amazon.

Jinki: Extend
I really like the way the animation looks in this. Very clean, smooth and professional. Also, I LOVE mecha anime. I don't know what it is about big ol' robots beating the heck out of each other, but it never gets old. All it needs is girls piloting them.. Oh wait, this show DOES have girls piloting mecha.. What else could one ask for?! Razz

Gilgamesh
I preferably like darker anime with a serious plot. This anime appears to be one of those.. However, besides this being dark, I haven't found much more information regarding it that makes me want to watch it. Maybe someone can enlighten me?

I preferably always watched the darker kind of animes with action and philosophical type content (Lain, Eva, Rah). But now, I'd like to try some animation with a bit more drama, keeping the philosophical undertones. I've also had a heightened appreciation for tragedies. I love it when a piece of art can bring forth my human emotions.

I think I've done a good deal of research on the above anime, and I am still at a bit undecided. I of course will get to all of these animes in time, but I like to approach each one at a time. Perhaps I'll do a one or two episode sample of each.

So, I'm really interesting in hearing everyones opinions of the above animes and which one YOU would watch first. I don't mind if your interests or views are similar to mine, I'd just like to know what you think. And also, if anyone else here has a Netflix subscription, please feel free to offer a recommendation that I have not listed above!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for reading. Smile

There are some good shows available, but the only problem for me is that as far as I know they're all dubbed. Instant Que offers only one version of a film. Although I still regret missing Paprika before they removed it. Sad

Thanks for the input.

Yeah, I agree that it kind of stinks that you don't have a choice between dubbed or subs. However, it really hasn't been too big of a deal to me, unless the voice acting is really bad or the translations are noticeably poor.

Still trying to decide what series I should pursue after I've completed 'Last Exile'. Anyone have any opinions?

Thanks again.

If you haven't seen Noein yet it's worth giving a try. The animation style is a little strange, but the plot is interesting and original.

I would second Noein - a nice mix of particle physics and school kids;-)

Kurau Phantom Memory is also excellent. Usually prefer subs but no complaints about the dub. And yes it can be emotional at times.
Be warned; the last four episodes are not available instantly, you need to rent the DVD! Probably some licensing thing;-(

I think at the monet they have Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Sociaty for watch instantly. That one's worth checking out, although it's not my favorite Ghost in the Shell.

Particle physics and school kids! Whoa, I'm sold. I will have to check Noein out. Smile

Thats a shame about the last 4 Karau episodes missing. I must admit, I am kind of disappointed about how much content they will be removing Jan 1st, 2009. It's about 15% of my instant queue!

I will for sure see Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society as soon as I get the chance, but I watched most of the Ghost in the Shell: SAC episodes not too long ago and I am kind of 'ghosted-out' to be honest.

Still not too sure what I will see next, but I think I can narrow it down between, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, Karau: Phantom Memory and Noein. I'm pretty amped to see Monte Cristo because I've been quite pleased with all the works I've seen by Gonzo so far.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations.

Definitely check out Noein if you're at all into science fiction. It's a really well done show, with a very unique animation style. Plus, if you're a dub person, Crispin Freeman does a fantastic job as one of the main characters.

Is anyone aware of a single list of all the anime that Netfilx has? I know that you can just brows through them but they are always getting new stuff. I will check it one day, then come back a week or two later and then there's allot more that I need to add to my list. It's crazy.
