I heartily agree. Katsuhiro Otomo is an extremely talented director. I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Memories yet. I would have to list that, and especially the Magnetic Rose sequence (scripted by the great Satoshi Kon) as my favorite anime movie.
As far as live action goes... I love kid movies. I've recently been going through a sort of nostalgia phase where I've been re-watching all of my childhood favorites. I could watch the Neverending Story 10,000,000 times and never get sick of it. Ahhh... the memories...
I love Donnie Darko too! I had no idea so many people knew about this movie! Maybe it has appeal to anime fans in general....

Oh yea. I loved donnie darko as well. It's a big hit with most people on the east coast. Same with Boondock Saints. Are those big in other parts of the US as well?

What can I say, I can never have just one favorite. If its in a genre maybe (for exaple my favorite western is The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly), but I really cant make myself say I like one movie above anything else. Its the same with anime.

You mean the RahXephon movie? Well, it's like a retelling of the TV series, only they changed a few things to make it a bit more conclusive. If you haven't seen the TV series, I wouldn't recommend watching the movie until you do.

Well, I think that my favorite anime movies so far are(not necessarily in this order) Jin-Roh, Patlabor 1&2, Akira, Spirited away and My Neighbour Totoro, As for the live action movies, I'd vote for When last sword is drawn(samurais!), Zatoichi(Kitanos), Shaolin soccer(Stephen Chow, the funniest man in the world? ), and Ninja in the dragons den(you can't beat the 80's..). Of course there are other good ones, but these rule at the moment.

well I Think Tony k. is right! I like the series too but the Thread Topic was Movie and so.... The RahXephon Movie is the series in a short form with some changes and a good complement to the series
