Wow. I remember some of the boards that reviewed this show week by week, and they HATED it. Don't even get me started on the OVA's.

This is a great show! I bought this box set as soon as it was available. I just wish I had more time to watch it. I'm terribly back-logged at the moment.

So much anime.....so little time.

Come to think of it, that isn't such a bad thing. Smile

I've been wanting to get this for a while now, ever since I saw the first few eps. on Adult Swim.

Now that the box set is out, I plan on getting it with my tax return coming in a few weeks...!

Excellent review, as always. Very Happy

I don't know many reviewers that hated the show, most the reviews I've read have been pretty positive. As for the OAV's, why are they a problem? They are really just the final 4 episodes of the series and they close it off very well with an ending that isn't open but is open to interpretation. I think if they had left it as it ended before the OAV's that would have been a much worse ending, was far too open and unfinished.

I don't mind so much open ended series as it happens a lot in anime but in the case of Wolf's Rain the series ending just way too open.

I think I'll just wait for the cheaper box set next year.

Best Buy has this set for $99 right now, which is about as cheap as you can expect a 7 disc set to get.

Wolf’s Rain was the first Anime I’ve ever watched from A-Z; it was also the Anime that really got me into Anime.Mr. Green

But it was all by pure accident.
Because it just so happened that I discovered it one night when I was browsing through all the channels and caught an episode on Cartoon Network (adult swim), I was instantly hooked.
It really is a great Series IMO, and the last few episodes were such a heartbreaking and emotion rollercoaster ride......
The Music also contributes allot to the emotions you see on screen; a great Soundtrack to a truly great Series. Very Happy

I don't see why there would be a cheaper boxed set than this--this is Bandai, not thinpack-happy ADV.

I must confess, I picked up Wolf's Rain on fansubs from a friend awhile back, but never got around to watching them...when I saw this set, I happened to have some Best Buy Reward certificates lying around, so buying this set was $80 very well-spent. The video quality is very good (especially compared to the aforementioned fansubs) and the English dub is one of the best I've heard...I generally watch series subtitled, but I had no problems with the dub in Wolf's Rain. Sure, you miss out on the plushie toy if you buy this version, but the soundtrack and distinctive box are worth it.

Exactly, this is Bandai. Brick-happy Bandai. Let the main, special edition box set hang around for a while, and eventually there'll usually be a cheaper brick set right after it. I honestly can't think of any anime I've bought from Bandai in the past year that wasn't in brick form. Love the things, I do.

*crosses fingers for Stand-Alone Complex and Gundam SEED bricks sometime in 2006* Anime catgrin + sweatdrop

Let's see Bandai released 2 Escaflowne collections but that's not stopping them from releasing a 3rd next month. Each time being half the price of the former.

I agree with this review, Wolf's Rain really was a great series. I was a bit disappointed with the final end, but I'm the kind of person that can still be satisfied with everything that lead to that point.

I wouldn't expect a GITS brick until 2007 at the earliest. SEED maybe.
