We're pleased to announce that the second annual WFAC will be held this year on November 6-7th, 2002, at the Waterloo Galaxy theatres in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Last year's inaugural festival featured "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust", "Metropolis" and "Jin-roh: the Wolf Brigade". This year, we've got an even more exciting lineup planned. We are pleased to announce the first two titles on our programme:

- "Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door" (2001): an action-packed all-new story of the band of bounty-hunting misfits from the fan-favourite anime TV series, "Cowboy Bebop". Action, with style.
- "A Tree of Palme" (2002): a fantasy-adventure written and directed by Takashi Nakamura, whose earlier credits include the wonderfully imaginative "Catnapped!", as well as the anime TV series "Peter Pan" and the "Nightmare" segment of "Robot Carnival." Mr. Nakamura was also the chief animator for the classic anime film "Akira."

We have other exciting films planned, and we hope that you will be able to join us to watch the best animated feature films of the past year, in their their full 35mm glory with digital surround sound - the way anime movies are meant to be seen. Please visit us over the upcoming days at http://www.wfac.ca for the latest news, movie reviews and ticketing information.

What the...?

I've never heard of this. But now that I have, I WANT TO SEE IT.

Catnapped was some cool but freaky ish, and Robot Carnival rocks the house as well.

The following description (edited) gives a good idea of what the movie is about:

In "A Tree of Palme", (Takahashi Nakamura) conjures up a stunning fantasy universe, which is radically different from the current vogue of OVA. A cross between Pinocchio and A.I., it goes further than both to envisage an organic relation between nature, humans and robotics. Like the hero of A.I., Palme is a robot, except he's carved out of wood. Palme was made by the botanist Fow as his surrogate child, complete with strange pre-historic memories. Driven by love for the mortal Popo, and entrusted with a mysterious capsule by a warrior on a mission from the celestial world, who has been wounded by forces unknown, Palme traverses Toto, Arcana and Tamas - the celestial, terrestrial and subterranean spheres of his world - on a quest to become human.

As far as we know, the WFAC screening of this movie will be its premiere outside of Asia and Europe. It has been screened in film festivals in Hong Kong and Berlin; it is scheduled to screen in Brussels. Come see it if you can!
