I'm not sure whether this has already been covered, but neither did the forum search help me on this, nor did google.
I doubt anyone could miss the obvious allusion to Pirates of the Caribbean that is "Big Boys" on OST 1 - but my feeling tells me that is definitely not the only track which is inspired by rather popular soundtracks. Unfortunately, my ability to distinguish musical pieces, or motives, for that matter, is not all that great. I hope someone helps me clarify why I feel the way I do about certain pieces of the Macross Frontier OSTs. Thanks! OST 1: Track 1: Frontier 2059: When the first trumpet (fanfare?) sounds, a USS Voyager appears in my imagination. Also, the part from 1:50 to 1:57 reminds me of something I cannot really grasp. 2:26 to 2:33 reminds me of LotR, a theme of either Gondor or Rohan (probably Gondor because of the more "epic" sound and instruments) Track 5: Vital Force: Trumpet/Fanfares from beginning to 00:10 (but a recurring motif) again remind me of Star Trek. Track 17: Tally-Ho!: The first 10 seconds remind me of Star Wars as well as Batman. The instrumentation sounds very much like Star Wars, the first 4 or 5 seconds of the motif - but the end of the motif (DUN DUN, repeated) reminds me more of Batman, but I don't really know why. Track 18: The Target: Star Wars again, from 00:07 to 00:10. Those are the pieces that reminded me of something else. Anyone agree or disagree with me?
