Good, we really need to protect those precious fictional children. Maybe get them into better imaginary homes where they won't be exposed to fake sexual abuse.

uh oh that would mean no more strike witches for the fan boys....
I really dislike lolicon and shotacon but I haven't completely made up my mind on this one. Some times you look at the "otaku" news stories coming out of japan with the school girl underwear galleries and you think that it needs to be stopped but then other times you think "It's just a cartoon" |

There's a limit to these things...
virtual/reality lolis = good/okay loli general fanservice/ecchi = okay/stretching it.... loli porn/hentai/any sort of sexual intercourse related = bad/bad no matter how you look at it. lolis is good as long as it doesn't depict the explicit pornographic aspect and is not applied towards real life (ie otakus actually going out to ask 10 year olds out....<_<). Ecchi is fine though, but again, in reality no groping bs or flash photography/video of lolis....in that event we just have a bunch of pedo bears running about. |

I belive that any type of imagry, virtual or not depicting kids in a sexual fasion is just plain wrong. I will even go as far as to say that even playing around the idea in entertainment is not something sutible to watch or be entertained about. I hope that the study proves to the japanese goverment that this type of crapy smut is not something a person should have.

I will never be downloading to UNICEF, ever. And if some kid comes to my house for Halloween for that "Pennies for Unicef" thing, I'm going to give him a hell of a pro-Free Speech, anti-Puritanism political rant.
This whole "protect the children" stuff is pure BS, too.
It's a good thing we don't live in Sharia (Islamic law) like they do in Iran. They just voted for a new law that proscribes the death penalty for any man who loses his Muslim faith, and life imprisonment for any woman. Give an inch to moralist extremists like this, and we'll start having laws like that in the US. |

The fact that they are making a study about this is great news, while i don't specificially like loli porn i have never been able to see what harm it does. If this study actually gives proof that these virtual images cause harm/ real pedophilia i wonder how many people will accept that

don't they have to save starving children in Rwanda instead of worrying about what otakus like myself is doing at privacy of my home?
someone needs to have their priorities straight... |

"Virtual" child pornography if we're discussing anime and manga isn't nearly the same as the real thing. We've had this debate too many times, and I'll keep saying it, NO REAL CHILD WAS HURT, ABUSED, OR EXPLOITED. And to say that it could lead to actual child abuse is thought crime, and you're a fascist.
And to say that there were victims, you'd have to prove that anime and manga children are real people. |

This made me laugh really hard. Thanks! I don't really care what someone's crazy-ass fetish is as long as it doesn't harm real innocents. Virutal child porn, like all porn, is considered obscene, but as long as its kept in the realm of the imagination then there's no problem. I don't know how this panel is going to study virtual child porn objectively. I'll be interested in seeing how this study is carried out, in addition to the results. If they decide to ban depictions of this illegal activity, why don't they just ban all depictions of illegal activities (murder, theft, jaywalking, etc), to avoid inspiring people to commit crimes?
"Trick or treat" indeed! Last edited by Mevious on Mon Oct 13, 2008 1:27 am; edited 1 time in total |

I think the ero manga industry is way too big in Japan for it to ever be banned. I mean the percentage of ero manga and doujin that contains underage characters would be damned near 100%. Would the government really be willing to ban all that?
But even if they did the authors would just have to put disclaimers at the start saying "even though these characters look like they are in elementary school they are really consenting adults, just trust us!" and there would be no way to refute it because, well, they aren't real people. |

That's funny because it reminds me of what the R1 Hentai industry does to most if not all of their titles. No shit they're in highschool, they're wearing goddamn sailor uniforms, but nope, now they're in college. But since they change everything like from school to campus, and from whatever sensei to professor and what not, it's just laughable. |

If you're ever in Tokyo, you should visit Yoyogi(?) Park some time. It's perfectly fine to do that over there. |
