It's always good to get more anime in Itunes, did they posted the original version or the Robotech Remastered version to Itunes?

Either way I hope this does real well. Doesn't ADV have the rights to this along with HG?
Come on kids, watch the show you always hear about but have never seen!

I still call Macross Frontier "the new Robotech" to this day.

Or, they can watch the original Macross, the show that the kids and the fogies always hear but have never seen!

I love how ANN always includes so many disclaimers about how Robotech isn't anime, yet includes Transformers: Animated in its encyclopedia.
Yup. Just love it. To bits.

Bite your tongue! No insulting the descendant of the original work.
I agree with ABetterTimeandPlace. Watch the original folks.

Wait, the encyclopedia lists both Robotech and Transformers: Animated as "U.S. TV". Which they both are. Why so sensitive about the facts?

Leave it to the internet for out of context snide remarks.
Yes, Robotech is a bastardization of the original Macross. Yes I own the original Macross, so I should know. But I don't think, in fact I can safely say that this fogie(am I really?) wouldn't be into anime as much as I am if it were not for Robotech. My comments weren't directed at which was better and whatnot. The fact is both were and are important.
Plus read the article and tell me where it says SDF Macross is being sold on iTunes?

Is that even an option on iTunes?

Then...what's wrong with also suggesting that all generations of anime fans watch Macross?

It doesn't, but it should be. The point is that it's a good series for any anime fan to watch regardless of how. There are several legal ways to watch Macross.

Not sensitive, just pointing out the hypocrisy.
Robotech is dubbed anime.
Transformers: Animated is not dubbed anime.

Just as a reminder people, I have nothing against watching the original shows, but if it wasn't for stuff like Speed Racer, Astro Boy, Gigantor, Battle of the Planets, StarBlazers, Robotech, Volton, Force Five and Tranzor Z anime fandom would be even smaller than it is already... it's not the US and UK fans' fault that TV standards and practices were more stringent than lets say Latin America and mainland Europe, where shows were just basically translated.
Adaptations were a necessary evil of their time. I just take them as another story that shares (mostly) the same footage as the anime

I'm not sure that Robotech falls into the same S&P-motivated adaption category as something like Voltron/GoLion. IIRC (and it's been a while, so I might not), Robotech was more a result of the U.S. producers not wanting to release a show with only a twenty-something episode run. Instead, they created a frankenshow out of three separate series and called it good.
In this case, I'm not sure it qualifies as a necessary evil.

Robotech is dubbed anime.
Transformers: Animated is not dubbed anime. |
Hypocrisy? The encyclopedia doesn't call Transformers: Animated anime. Whoever is calling Transformers: Animated anime, it's not there. What about the encyclopedia is inaccurate?
Now, read the description of Robotech on iTunes. It doesn't once mention that it's made from anime or from Japan. Is that what you mean by "hypocrisy"? In that case, you're blaming the wrong people. Like Takeyo said, the Robotech producers went beyond just dubbing anime and editing for S&P.

Yes.

No, I'm not. Plenty of folks aside from those at ANN have been able to reconcile that Robotech was a dubbed anime series.

Yes, but not too far beyond. The 'adaptation' process involved a few lines here and there to link the three series, tenuously at best.
That's not to say Harmony Gold didn't take a lot of undue credit for the show; they did, as did the importers behind Force Five, etc. That wasn't unusual at the time, sadly.
But Robotech isn't as much of an exception as ANN seems to suggest. It wasn't a U.S. production. It was a U.S. dubbing of three anime series.

Yes. |
So you're blaming ANN for "hypocrisy" over something it didn't say and something written by someone else--the show's production team, no less?

From the article:
"Robotech, 1985's American edited and rewritten adaptation of three different anime series..."
Isn't that true?

Tenuous, yes, but just "a few lines"? There was an entire episode recycled other episodes' contradictory footage and contradictory dialogue made from scratch, and insertion of one show's footage into another show's footage, again with dialogue made from scratch. A key story term in one show was completely rewritten based on two different elements from the other two shows, altering the main impetuses of all three series. Character motivations were changed, and dialogue and plot goofs were added.

Isn't that what the article said, except it was more accurate in saying it was also "edited and rewritten"?
