It has a fairly bad timeslot, which hurts viewership. However, I suppose the fanbase is as strong as ever, with plenty of people (even in Japan) who are downloading and/or streaming it.
I mean, ratings are low, but the production values are still very high, even at episode 19. That indicates a budget which has remained high, which itself indicates that the studio still expects to make money off of it. Which itself would imply that the studio executives believe that the fanbase is there.
Makes sense?

140% higher, huh? I wonder how many of those purchases were brought in because of the ending of season 1?

Totally agree with this. We still haven't gotten vol. 1 and 2 without flaws yet.

Well the fans in Japan are willing to pay for a show they really like.

My Volume 1 worked perfectly. What kind of problem(s) did you have with your Volume 1, if you do not mind me asking? It is my Volume 2 that has the problems. I sent out my disk to Bandai Entertainment and hope for a speedy return.
I wonder when the R1 market will start distributing Blu-ray anime.

Sheesh, 100,000+ people are willing to lay down around 35 USD for one episode?

Simple, once fans are willing to cough up money for the actual DVDs of anime.

So apparently you only bought the overpriced single Vol. 1 instead of the nifty 2-pack bundle? =____= Epic effing fail.....
And for the sake of keeping information running...it's Vol. 2 that's fragged the most.

Pizza Hut, dude! Pizza Hut! Pizza Hut is a world-wide powerful franchise. It's as big in Japan as it is in America. So you can bet your ass that with a massive sponsor like Pizza Hut, the show would have one hell of a budget...
It's effective-as-hell advertising too. Seeing C.C. mooch off of Lelouch's credit card to munch on some pizza, well... Let's just say eventually I gave in. Started eating Pizza Hut again after 4 years! 4 years!

Don't assume that. My sister got the 2-pack bundle LE and volume 1 played perfectly. The Volume 2 disc had a few minor glitches. The problems with the discs are partially dependent on the type of machine you are playing them on so mileage with this problem will vary considerably from person to person.
Too bad Pizza Hut in America is a bunch of jerks. Buy in Japan folks not here. Pizza Hut here does not support the rebellion.

I thought that R2 was moved to a "better" timeslot in the middle of the day instead of like 1 AM? Wouldn't that mean more people are seeing it?

Let's see, so that means the first disc sold about 40,000 discs.
I expect a headline next year to read: Hit Adult Swim show sells 140% less than first volume did in Japan. [16,700] Best selling show of the year!
