I hope that's not a damning indictment on the state of Japanese animation, when a Korean animated film wins at one of their festivals.

I don't think so...maybe they should start worrying if an American wins. |

Naw--It's when Disney and Warner Bros. place that we should begin to worry.
Then again, Disney is getting stuff into the oscars (fortunately, none of their own stuff is getting awards--Go Pixar/Miyazaki!) |

Stop downgrading Korean Manwha. It's good. So Manwha must be good animated. It's not that musch different from Manga/Anime anyways.

The key word in the title of the festival is "International". So someone from a country other then Japan won in an "anime" festival. OMG! How horrible!
As I'm sure EVERYONE on this forum knows, the word "anime" in Japan isn't looked to as JUST Japanese animation, it's animation in general. Anyway, as I was saying, it's an international competition. Why are people making a big deal about someone not Japanese winning it? It's not like this is the end of anime as we know it. By the way, if an American were to win next year, more power to Japan for not limiting it on nationality, and more on talent. With Disney currently out of the rink now, it'll be intresting to see what's in store for the future of animation in America. I doubt any Americans will be winning it any time soon tough. |

Dongwoo Animation. Isn't that the same Korean animation group who did Teen Titans and Jackie Chan Adventures?

I think that a few of these "don't knock Korean Animation" threads are aimed at me so here goes. I
'm all for animation from all over the world, Japanese or not. I was remarking on the rather unfortunate state of animation apreciation in the US when Disney--I'm sorry, Ei$ner--starts taking direct credit for making anything that can be properly considered as worthy of appreciation. The studios they contract and distribute for? Certainly. But not them. Sorry to threadjack--just clarifying an earlier post. |
