I wonder how many people will pick up their dozens of sacks of million dollar bills? With technology the way it is, I would say none (unless PA keeps on going for a couple more decades at least).
Even with inflation, they should still be able to buy an icecream (which will definitely still be around in 2098). No Monopoly money, either. We want the real deal. Oh, and to respond to Abby, I too am a fellow New Zealander. And my introduction to Anime partially matches your own. First came Pokemon, (which funnily enough I have never seen the first episode of), then Dragonball Z. I do remember Shinzo (which sparked controversy over here with its portrayal of spoiler[characters fighting on the half-sunk Statue of Liberty]), Cardcaptors, Yu-gi-oh, Digimon, even god forbid Beyblades and Crush Gear. When sixteen, a kind neighbour let me watch Gundam Wing, Gasaraki, Orphen and Inuyasha when they appeared on SKYTV (which we didn't have). Then one day, much later, when buying a computer game in mid 2005, I noticed that the store (Central Park) had added some Anime. Having enjoyed Gundam Wing when I watched it, I decided to spend my game money on Gundam SEED V1. I loved it so much, I got Gasaraki and Evangelion (which I had heard great things about) soon after. The rest, they say, is history. Now my collection has surpassed 400 DVDs (legitimate, not bootlegs or full of fansubs), and I am running out of room to put them. Right at midnight. Woot.
MSNBC huh? Oh well, at least you're not watching Fox news. Anime is on thing, the Tim and Eric show is complete garbage. Its for those folks who somehow enjoy Squibbillies. Not that AS all of projects add another S but those do. Newtype was $49.99? I remember only paying $20 for it. Wow. As for PA, i'll be sure to inform my great great grandchildern. I think a lot of people who did enjoy cartoons back in the day and hate it now can't find good shows. Some of the cartoons on Nick & CN make you shudder and undestand why kids are being stupid. Camp Lazlo? You have to be kidding me. Rarely do any of the new American cartoons capture my eye. They don't have the craziness the old shows use to. There are no more shows like Hysteria or Tiny Toons. No more Doug or Kablaam. No Gargoyles. There are a few shows I enjoy now, Kappa Mikey (which everyone but me hates apparently) and Chowber are two good examples. its just hard to find anything worthwhile. As for Anime Endings- I love Wind from Naruto too. As for Kenshin, I prefered It's gonna Rain! By Bonnie Pink. Its upbeat but very mellow. It puts me to sleep at night. Another ending I enjoy is Gensis of Next, from Cyborg 009. It makes me want to break out the glow sticks. Also I love Movin from Bleach, Movin!! LOL @ the pen0r. Thats just what I love to hear the boys in my English class say. Thats a cute puppy. As for the Answerfan question. God yes. Every damn day in High School was torture. My first two years I had a lot of free tim during class on my hands so i'd read manga. I had so many problems with other students, telling the teacher I was reading porn or something. They never even knew what I was reading. Then the teasing, why don't you just move to japan get out of here you don't belong. They also called me Black-a-nese. It became so bad that I withdrew from talking to anyone. And then, one day In second year left a Newtype mag in one of the classrooms. I ran back for it next period and it was gone. A few days later a shy girl returned it to me, saying she enjoyed t very much. We became pretty good friends. I joined the moive club, and met some other upper-classmen who were fans. Things were good then. I got through high school, and college. That was fun. My roomate however called me a nerd behinnd my back. Sometimes i'd snort when I laughed and pushed my glasses all the way on my face. I'm quite happy being a nerd. ...why is that so long? good job Zac. I always loved Naruto's first ending too but I never fully understood it. The lyrics really don't make sense. Well they do but only up to a point. Of course it makes more sense then most J-pop English songs so I am not complaining. I still bought the CD (And the Kenshin CD too). I don't recognize any of the other shows except FA.
The answerfans answers were depressing. Princess Mononoke at age 10, people who got into anime because of Pokemon all of you shame for making me feel old. No answers of newer anime then Robotech should have been allowed. EDIT: As for this week's question Nope never. I am a nerd who hangs with nerds. I do catch grief at my job for walking to the comic book store/all things nerdy shop every Wednesday at lunch (it doesn't help that we're prosecuting the owner) but otherwise I have been very lucky. I personally love the music from Cardcaptor Sakura. In fact, I think it has the best music of any anime I have ever seen. You have no reason to be embarassed for liking that ending. Anyway, your choice of ending themes is excellent overall.

Haha the Engrish certainly adds to the songs charm. I wouldn't have realized that the lyrics were English if there weren't any subtitles. But yeah, lists of OPs/EDs are a welcome change in discussion. Here's some of my favorites: Gasaraki Samurai Champloo Naruto ED 10 Edit: How can I forget about Gungrave's ED? It's my absolute favorite. Last edited by fokkusuhaundo on Fri Mar 28, 2008 2:51 am; edited 1 time in total |

Some my favorite anime endings
"Wolf's Rain" didn't really enjoy this series as much as I though I would but I bought the soundtrack just for the opening and closing themes and found the rest of the CD to be good as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEhrGLdrRuA Ghost in the shell:SAC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJKbudpYU5w Bleach 1st ending, This song is what got me to be a fan of Rei Fu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcRyZvL1i0w Gundam Seed Destiny 3rd ending, another Rei Fu song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uewC34nORK8 |

me too, CCS has some of the best pop songs i ever heard. Toi No Machide from the 1st Movie Ending is by far one of my favorite songs and i do admit i am embarrassed by it. even if fansubs arent in discussion the youtube links makes the situation sort of ironic and man i miss kenshin. |

You have made my day. Finally, I have met another person who likes Love Song. No discussion on Anime EDs - I feel - is complete without mentioning Gravity (Wolf's Rain), The Real Folk Blues (Cowboy Bebop), and The Beautiful World (Kino's Journey). |

I'm 4/5 in total agreement with both Zac's best opening and best ending lists. Sadly I've never sat through a full episode of Cowboy Bebop, and have yet to (omgz sacrilege!?) really care at all to see Naruto.
At the risk of starting a "listing" battle, I woulda included the Escaflowne ending too, just because it's too funny to picture some Japanese dude rocking out and saying "don't stop baybeeeeh" Thank you for illuminating me as to what piq is. |

For me one of the best closers ever will always be the first closer for Gasaraki. It makes more sense if you've seen the series, but its great song and high-caliber animation and artistry can be appreciated by anyone:
See it here. EDIT: Apparently I was looking up the above link while the previous two references got posted or I would have just agree with them. As for the new question: I have far more often found anime and manga to be an ice-breaker rather than a source of grief, but I didn't get serious about it until after I got out of college, either. (I actually list it on my resume under "Interests," and on more than one occasion it's been a point of positive discussion in job interviews.) In all honesty the only time I've ever experienced ridicule for being an anime fan was at work. It was someone from another store and I thought we had common ground, both people that at the time played WoW. Eventually he asked what else I was into and I was like I like anime. And then he's like "wow, you're really weird. Only weird people like that stuff". Okay, just so you guys know this person was a LARPer, so I was like um...pot meet kettle?
Sure, I spend more money on anime and manga than one should and sure I'm an adult female with tons of little anime toys all over the place, but I have never been too involved in the anime community. I think I've only cosplayed like once and I don't scream and assault guys with yaoi paddles at cons and I told the guy this and he still thought I was a freak haha Ah well, to each their own I guess. (And to clarify I don't think people that cosplay or love yaoi are freaks, most of my friends are all about that and I'm totally fine with it, it's just not my thing) As for closing themes, I've really never been a fan of closing themes but I do adore the Claymore ending theme http://youtube.com/watch?v=pMcjldo2GWg Last edited by angieness on Fri Mar 28, 2008 12:24 am; edited 1 time in total |

I think Zac's confused. The $49.99 was for the subscription. The cover price was $12.99. Also, "A Scanner Darkly" is a decent American production which can compete with Paprika. [Though you might debate whether it can be considered animation in the first place, due to the rotoscoping, and all...I hear Persepolis is good, too, but that's French, right?]

Kenshin's 3rd ED is also one of my favorites; I don't have many other's that come to mind. Except for 1st Beck ED; every time I watch that I just can't help but play "spot the rock star" from Kurt Cobain, Freddy Mercury, Bob Marley, The Residents.... yeah there's alot. And, I'll admit, I like the ending to the first 6 Ranma 1/2 OAVs. There I said it; I'm chugging the handle of Jaegermeister in my freezer while blasting Slayer's "Raining Blood."
To the Flake: Heh heh; pen0r.... |
