Just a pronounciation FYI, in Franch words ending in S, such as "Bandes" and "dessinées" the S is usually silent.

Ya think Tokyopop will ever import French comics to the US? They do have their own culture and all as far as that goes, would help their world dominance ^^. All Hail Tokyopop *no sarcasm*

I'd really like someone to start importing European comics in some kind of Quantity. "Heavy Metal" magazine is esentially an anthology of European comics that involve sex... Some of the stories in Heavy Metal are very good, but we could od with a lot more.

Unfortunately, although very muchunlike North American comics, most European comics look fairly similar to North American comics. Lack of a particularly distinctive visual style will probably hurt them since they won't be instantly recognizable as "different".

Even if I'm a Quebec anglophone whom, to be perfectly honest, doesn't speak French as fluently as he should, I've been buying French-translated manga since 1995 and it's one of the best things about being an anime fan in Montreal (well, besides Fantasia, but that's not year-round). I'm glad I have a legit alternative to "scanlations" for things like GALS!, Kimagure Orange Road, Sailor V, and the first four volumes of You're Under Arrest.

Though I am glad to see that English-translated manga is catching up to France both in terms of the price coming down and the frequency of the paperback volumes increasing.

I didn't like the fact how the article seemed to look down on manga as if it wasn't "serious literature".
Personnaly, I think that there always will be audience for both manga and European comics. With the new Tin Tin movie coming out, even more readers are going to look into European comics.

Great news and well deserved. I personally prefer Monster to 20th Century Boys but both are phenomenal. Naoki Urusawa is the top mangaka working today IMO.
