Break the ice (if it asks to see the video input Danger in one box & victory in the other.)
Break the ice is the title of the new music video for Britney Spears. It's said that is is an anime themed video producded in South Korea. By who? I can't seem to find that. Is this a new trend for music stars? To have anime concepts in their videos? I ask because Kanye West had Akira ithemes in his Stronger video. Linkin Park have had Gundams and other anime things. Daft Punk (even though they've done this for awhile) has had Interstella. Are there any other music videos out there with anime themes? I find that this is pointing to anime growing more mainstream, yet i'm not sure if its a good or bad thing. |

Tatu's first video for "Gomenasai" was done in anime style. The animation itself is rather poor (as you can see for yourself: http://youtube.com/watch?v=lHRM6Jm7fhg) which might explain why there is another video for the same song that just features the girls. |

Why would it be a bad thing? With more people getting interested in anime that would open up for opportunities for anime to grow in the U.S. and for more anime getting licensed in R1. IMO, anime companies in R1 need to do better marketing, and if all these artists and the live-action movies based of anime/manga can get more people interested in anime, then it would be better for the industry. |

The only one to come to mind is the music video for "Breaking the Habit" by linkin park which uses the same style as the anime short in Kill Bill.

I think we're stressing this whole thing about anime style music videos becoming a trend because who was it made for? Britney Spears. If we were to see about 7-10 more videos from big name music artists come up in the next month or so, you could maybe call it that, but c'mon, it's just one video I've heard of so far, and is of no great significance right now.

Interesting. I guess performers want something new to mix in the style. I don't know if this is a good thing or bad thing, but these kind of things does have some kind of effect to the Anime culture. Lately, I just figured out that the Kanye West's video was based on Akira, don't call me a "Noob." But that left me thinking, "What the hell?" Recently, I have seen more and more people wearing those Naruto head bands, mostly blacks and they wear it as a belt buckle. Does that say something?
Random Question: I have never seen Akira, but based on Kanye West's Video, were those glasses part of the Anime because those glasses looked retarded. |

I'll start at the bottom and go up!
AznJazz- the glasses? As far as I remember no they aren't from Akira. I have been searching high and low for a pair of those. lol. fighterholic- she's still a big name regardless of her...issues. If her video gets any success we'll probably see more anime styled videos within the year. It's not really a stress, I just feel like it means something. She could have done any other tpe of video, but they choose anime. I'm wondering why? I've never heard anything about Spears being an anime fan at all. Thats why i'm questioning: did they do this because anime is "cool"? Is it something catchy and head turning to them? ***This reminds me, I forgot about Lupe Fiasco, who always has anime in his videos. Be it a model kit meeca, a t-shirt. He's pretty much styling. braves- I am both happy for anime to get major attention but at the same time upset. it's conflicting I know, i'll try to explain. While her video may insipire some to go out and view other anime works, it seems that, many things once they hit mainstream- to the point where Hollywood notices- falls apart. This doesn't happen to everything, and even though its good plublicity for R1, I feel like anime could become the next comic book adaption for Hollywood. This is both good and bad, depending on who you ask. But like I said, I'm torn. NocturnalUX- I had never seen that before. it reminds me of a bootleg Reboot for some reason. |

Never head anything about it either, but I seriously don't think it's anything that will blow over to create a trend that fast. The video was cool and all, but I just don't think this will cause a huge uproar and people will say OMG! THAT IS SO COOL IWNAT MOOR! Let me kind of exercise it in Simon Cowell fashion, personally I don't think there's anything here to cause it to go big yet. |

Wait, quick question: Korea Animation is considered Anime as well? |

Technically no, though I'm sure there are plenty of people who would want to stick a claim on this video to say that it is anime. We term animation out of Japan anime. This video has been deemed a Korean animation in anime style, which means they made it in an anime fashion, but it is not anime. |

Hmm, interesting. These kind of things could turn into a good debate, which I am interested into hearing. But of course, I have not seen that much Korean Animation, so I have no say in any of this. Funny Thought: South Korea is a Christian Nation, and Japan is a Secularized Country. What a contrast huh? (They are just on top of each other.) |

Also, you can't forget that a lot of Japanese studios ourtsource much of their animation to Korean studios to reduce production costs.
Lupe Fiasco is IMO the best new mainstream rap artist out there and it is no secret that he is a fan of anime himself, which just makes me like his music even more. |

And it is to no wonder that there has been debate sparked over whether things that are produced in anime fashion are actual anime, but I think the accepted fact is that when it is produced in Japan, be it at the enlisting of Korean assistance, it is from there that we get anime. Other places can try to bring it out in that style, but they are just anime styled cartoons or animation, not anime. Confusing, isn't it? |

Yeah, but in a sense Korea is way bigger in the MMORPG market than Japan. And their MMORPG, as most of us can tell, is in an Anime style. Intern, Japanese production makes their animation anime, even if outsourced to Korea. Confusing, because the rest of the modernized Asian countries copies the Japanese model (I know, I am Filipino. I can see this among my own culture.) Yes, it does make you wonder. Side Note: So in my argument with my friend about Avatar: Airbender not being an anime, by your and most anime freaks opinion on the definition of anime, I win. |

i am so glad someone brought this up! i saw a clip of the video on "the soup" and was like, this isn't britney, it's a bad rip off of GiTS! i am not sure how thrilled i am to see anime being used in this way... on the other hand, maybe it would be good if anime became more popular? if there is more money to be made, they might start making/dubbing more anime for the US market.(i would love to see a second season of berserk, and if there was more demand...?) |
