Wow! What an awesome weekend! I so wish I could go. Houston doesn't get a lot of special events like that. The last thing that happened was Shinichiro Watanabe's visit 2 years ago.
Hmmm... how much would it cost to fly to GB? I don't think I want to know.

Is there a bigger fan base in Europe than there is in the US?

I guess it's a good thing I'm not in London over summer. It's really annoying when I'm nearby to events like these as my budget can't quite stretch to nights out at the BFI.
Plus, I don't think I'm ready for anime in cinemas- the Barbican is screening Metropolis (my all-time favorite) on the 24th, but aside from financial restraints there are some things I'd rather not watch with other people.

It's not all doom and gloom. At least 5 cm is actually licensed where you are.

Hmm... I'm surprised Hideaki Anno's new film Evangelion 1.01 won't make an appearance.

I haven't seethed with this much envy since the SOS Brigade performed at AX last year.

Quite. How dare anything of interest happen outside the USA?

The anime fanbase in the UK is far smaller than that in the US but theatrical anime movies make most of their money over here from world cinema audiences rather than from anime fans and, yes, Europeans are generally much more open to foreign language movies than Americans.

It has been licensed in the UK - it just isn't out on DVD yet.

Gah, I would be working tomorrow
Not that I could afford a trip tio London anyway.. and I've already been to Swansea to see the 5cm/s but we got Hugh David rather than Shinkai, which isn't quite the same.
