The funniest thing just occurred to me. Or maybe it's really stupid.
In the "Death Note" title, the A, T, and second T are turned on their side. Is this any significance? Is ATT a word in Japanese?
Completely, random.

I don't know for sure, but I'm going to assume that it's just a stylistic thing.

It's subliminal advertising for AT&T....
But seriously, it can't be a Japanese word since that isn't a possible combination of sounds to make a word in Japanese. It could possibly be an acronym for something, but honestly I think it's just a stylistic choice to make the title look more special. I mean, come on, who would read a series about a guy writing stuff in a notebook if it doesn't look EXTREME!!!!11!ONEONE

Well the "E" in Death is backwards too. So maybe shinigami just can't spell

I know the joke is fairly obvious but I was actually going to make the joke until I thought "nawww, it's too easy".

Actually, that's pretty good, I never thought of it.
I realize that it probably is stylistic, but you never know!

My mind works in a very retarded way. Any time someone says something I automatically ask myself "Is there any way to make a joke out of what they just said?". If it resulted in anything other than stupid humour then I'd consider it to be a serious problem.

If you read it backwards:
Let "ET" be a phallic symbol for a certain male organ.
"O" kinda can be interpreted as a certain bodily orifice.
"HTAE" looks like an other phallic symbol...
"D" looks exactly like a mouth.
(eh...where does Viz get these people to do the translations from? seems they are a really bored lot)

The logo appears the same way in the Japanese version, so it's not just Viz messing around with stuff, the original mangaka decided to make it look all fancy.

I think so too. A lot of titles are written in different, weird styles, such as xxxHOLiC and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle (I can't remember how it's written exactly).

I agree. I think the way Death note was written gives the title more impact...and ofcourse style

I think that's how they designed the title for the manga, so they probably just stuck with the title design for the show as well. Death Note isn't a Japanese word at all, but I'm sure that the arranging of the letters refers to something within the series, say for example the shinigamis.

Death Note shinigami are aware of Fonts. Yet, they haven't upgraded their notebooks to the Internet. Go figure.

The N is also slightly tipped toward the O.

HAHA. I never noticed it but you're right. The N is someone leaning over and the O is...well...using a little twisted imagination will get ya there.
