Biggest news to me in this story:
Quote: | Viz Media is releasing Phoenix in print form in North America. |
When will they start?
In all seriousness, while I've seen this title online, I'm rather disappointed that I haven't seen it in any of my local bookstores. It's beautifully drawn and written, and I'd recommend it to anyone.[/quote]

I think it's a great idea to have manga on your DS. It's will come very handy on long road trips when you don't want to play games DS.

I suppose what bothers me is the price.
If you bought five manga volumes brand new at 419 yen (I believe that's current...) it would still only cost you 2,095 yen - almost half the price of this game cartridge. Now I don't know if Hi no Tori is out of print in Japan or not, and that may be part of the appeal, but I can't see this game selling very well if for half the price (or less at Book-Off) I can just go snag physical copies of the manga...maybe portability is part of it?

It's called a special order. Series like this can't be expected to stay in stores. It sells so rarely and is not that highly sought after, that stores can't keep it in stock because it's essentially a waste of shelf space for series that do sell. Not that it shouldn't be available in every book store, everywhere. It is an amazing series that I'm currently enjoying, and I also recommend it to any manga fan worth their salt. But I'm just getting tired of people complaining about lesser known series not being available. It's certainly available, you just have to ASK for it. It began being reprinted this past summer, thankfully. But it's really just made for special orders only, there aren't even that many copies in print.

This might be more appealing to me than that overpriced manga reader Beveridge was drooling over a few months ago.

Interesting idea to say the least. I'm wondering about these "Visual Effects" that happen at crucial moments. Do you tap them or do they happen automatically? Or is it a passive effect like something glowing?
