I enjoyed the third volume more than the previous volumes since it does break away from the formula a bit. Overall I still like Excel far better since it seemed like more of a parody as opposed to NDB which seemed a little more satirical in nature. There is something about NDB which just felt mean since half the pop-ups would mention that the show was making fun of a political figure, or celebrity, especially compared to Excel which would make fun of films and television shows, most that I have seen. Then again I've always hated satirical shows like South Park. I did however like the X-Japan styled song in the last couple of episodes!

I loved this show and wondered if the music only started to lose it's "freshness" to me as I watched (and heard) the songs more than a straight run through once of the series. I watched in japanese, english, the pop-ups and commentary tracks before the next disk, so I had seen each disk 3 - 3 1/2 times before moving on to the next with little break in between them. The music still didn't become flat out annoying, just worn.
This title made it into my top ten now. I adore the voices in either language, I loved the jokes and sight gags, the characters were all wonderful in their own way, and everything fit together for me. I will be buying this soon, and that cover of Ichiro (vol 3, shown in this review) is adorable. |
