along the lines of rock music I can't think of any. Pop music wise Dragon Voice, Full Moon, and B.b. Explosion come to mind. Then there's Nodame Cantabile which is about classical type music really but has a whacky sense of humor.

Bremen is a action type shounen manga with a punk rock feeling and some r&r. It is a bit silly at times but it has some nice fighting scenes, though not as much music.

I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL.
Beck is my current favorite manga. After the first read through, I knew it.
It kills me to have stupid tokyo pop release 1 volume every 4 months even though Beck has 20 plus volumes in the can already in Japan. (I hate them even more to know instead of translating these volumes, they are using their resources for making ridiculous cine-manga crap and etc)

The the whole point of "stupid" Tokyopop slowing down the pace of BecK was because it wasn't selling all that well. Seriously, put your personal desire aside, and just see how impractical it is to rush all 20 volume out as soon as possible with limited shelf space and books being sent back.

i feel nothing for TP.
if they have saturation problems with their products, then they should not release as many titles as they do. they should keep their nasty mitts off properties they can't handle.
if they can't market a book like Beck which gets great reviews everywhere I look, then they should blame themselves.

How can poor sales be attributed to the release pattern when it was set up like that since before the first book was even released?

Four months isn't an overly long waiting period, really. I actually like it when I'm collecting a series that isn't completely out, because it means I don't spend all that money at once, which I will do if the series is completely out already.

i consider 3 months to be the standard.
every 3 months = 1 book every season
every 4 months = 3 books a year
I find it hard to get into a series with that much time between it. i love beck so obviously i won't quit buying it but DAMN! — some people who are not as enthusiastic about Beck may completely forget about it or find another timelier book to replace it in the 4 months between printing.

Has nothing to do with sales (that rate was already decided on before Beck was released). Tokyopop has done the same with just about every one of their titles to give bookstores a chance to sell the volumes before a new one is released. If Beck does phenominal, like DN Angel numbers, I could see them cranking up the release dates.
As for music manga, while it bears little resemblance to Beck, Me and the Devil Blues is the best your going to find. The story of legendary bluesman Robert Johnson, Devil Blues mixes gritty realism with folklorish elements to create a spellbinding read. Really one of the best things in Afternoon magazine right now.
Nodame Cantable is another great read, and probobly the most accesable shojo manga to non-shojo audiences out there.

I'm amazed no one said this, it's pretty popular...GRAVITATION!! Yes, it is yaoi, but the music industry is a large part of the story, and the music for the anime is some of the best J-Pop out there! All of the volumes of the manga are out in the US,a nd ditto for the anime.

Nobody's mentioned Nana? One main characters is a punk rocker type who's in a band, plus there's her boyfriend who's kind of a Sid Vicious type.
There's also Full Moon wo Sagashite, but the music in that series sort of takes a backseat to the characters' backstories and development.
Viz has the license for La Corda D'Oro (aka Golden Cord or whatever they're calling it), which is about some music students (classical music students a la Nodame Cantabile). I don't know much about it beyond that though.
That's all I can think of that's available in English.

That is if Sid Vicious was a sensitive pretty-boy
Nana is quite good, one of the best shojo titles on either market, but I really wouldn't classify it as a music manga. It's more about the lives of the two main characters, and music just happens to be part of those lives. They don't really focus on the actual music as much as some of the titles mentioned here. Grea read though.

Just a warning for Fullmoon O Sagahsite: the shoujo-ness of it is almost overwhelming, and I just don't see you as a very pink and fluffy type of person, v1cious. It's pretty good though, nice artwork. As for Bremen, it's got a catchy start to the manga, but I've never gotten past there. Like said before, it's got more action, but there's enough music in there to keep it in the music category. There's also Gravitation, but there's more to it than just singing...As for Nodame Cantabile, Del Rey gave it all sorts of praise, but their's the publisher after all. I haven't read it though.
