So, I looked, searched, snooped, and sniffed and alas found no thread related to this upcoming anime. : <
A shame it was, and I decided to more or less make my first post on these forums something thats enjoyable and useful, rather than a bland introduction. ![]() Just recently, the DMC anime was confirmed to be scheduled on WOWOW on June 14th. And to make it even better, it even has a purty teaser trailer to go with it, giving a glimpse of what it will really look like: http://te-a.i-revo.jp/meta/promo/devil/devil_promo_500k-03.wvx Now, most anime based on video games is frowned upon, simply cause well, they suck. Now, there are rare exceptions like Gungrave (also produced by Madhouse :3), however with a powerhouse staff behind DMC as it is, I'm not having much of a worry about it. So, this is the million dollar discussion question: will the DMC anime be a hit or miss? |

Well, the interesting thing about Gungrave is that while the anime was great the videogame was not, at least in my opinion. So maybe the key to making a good anime from a videogame is to pick a bad videogame, hehe.
I think the DMC anime has the potential to hit, but unfortunately so many videogame to anime titles have had similar potential before. The hard part is finding that comfortable position between keeping the anime true to the source material and changing enough to make it new and interesting. You keep it too much like the videogame and it just doesn't work as they're two different mediums that don't translate directly. You change too much and the fans will be up in arms, and rightfully so in most cases, although you'll always get those few fans that will blast any little change made. |

I actually think this anime is going to be a continuation of the games, not follow any of the games story line. The only think that'sbeen botheringme about that trailer (it's on me myspace) is the music. That music sounded good, but the music for the DMC games were so much better.

Gungrave was good as long as you get rid of that monster crap at the end of the show, and end it with Brandon spoiler[being shoot through the elevator]. Also Berserk had a really good Dreamcast game, I would check that out if you could find it. As for DMC I don't see why they wouldn't follow one of the two manga lines that are currently out. Certainly I would start with DMC 3 since it's probably the strongest storyline. |

DMC is a pretty generic "gothic" title, so I think the primary audience won't be "anime" fans but players of the original game. Unless said players are anime fans, too, they'll probably like it so long as it's faithful to the game.
Although a Madhouse title, I'd say it'll be pretty mediocre, but the licensing cost will be out of this world. Bandai USA has it in the bag, though. |

I was thinking they could follow the DMC 3 story too, but in that trailer he had his suit from both 1 and 2 on, but no 3 meaning it could be a sequel.

Wouldn't it be a prequel instead of a sequel then? I hope they do an original story (not follow one of the games), but if they are going to base the story on a game I'd prefer it to be 3. DMC 2 was horrible and I wouldn't mind if we never see the events in that game animated... ugh.
Add to that girls who have never played the game. Trust me.
I think it will be a hit. As long as it maintains the spirit of the games I don't see how it wouldn't be a success. It has MADHOUSE and Dante, how could it be a miss? |

I have some pretty high hopes for it, but then again it could turn out to be Black Blood Brothers 2. I think that if this show can air on [AS] then it will certainly grabs lots of people that way. Seeing as how the next DMC game is going multi-platform this is a great way for people to know the characters.
I am with you here, but don't forget there have been times when sure fire ideas have crashed and burned....need I bring up Odin? The movie that was going to make everything else look like child's play.....and yet that was quite possible the worse anime ever. |

Well, Madhouse is consistent with the quality of their stuff, but for every Akagi they end up with a Claymore; a title with good direction, acting, animation and the like, but ultimately a disappointment because the source material is weak. That's what I envision DMC to be like; it'll do well by virtue of the game popularity alone, and Madhouse's quality will only be the proverbial "cherry on a cake". |

I can imagine hearing "WTF? Nero?".
I think I'll cry if DMC turns out to be bad. This is honestly the show I'm most looking forward to this year. I'm going to try and remain hopeful for now. I can't wait until June ![]() |

No, DMC3 was the prequel, so with him wearing his suits from 1 and 2, that would mean it would be after or during the 1st or 2nd occurences, so it would be sequel. I'm pretty sure it's going to be a stand alone story for this, unless it really is following a manga. |

If they're gonna make an anime out of DMC they should follow the DMC3's storyline. I'm a big fan of DMC 3 and I hope they make lady the love interest of Dante. I also heard Trish is gonna be in the show as well. I hope Vergil's gonna be their too! his Yamato blade rocks!

...I guess I read your other post wrong... ![]()
I wish they weren't putting Trish in there. We only need Lady, no Trish. But because of Trish being there I wouldn't expect it to follow 3's storyline at all. Still, a Vergil is fine too and I'd like to see him at least make a cameo... I just hope they don't throw some Nero in at the end as a "BUY DMC 4!!!111" plug. |

Yeah, I know she's going to be there I just don't want her to. She wasn't exactly a favorite of mine, but who knows, there's a possibility she may be an awesome character in the anime... At least it will be interesting to have both her and Lady in the picture at the same time. |
