I was thinking, rather randomly, about the movie starship troopers (shoutouts to tenchi!). It hadn't occured to me previously, because I didn't really like the movie; but in hindsight it seems to be structed like many anime are.. I know its "based" off of a book with the same name, and I haven't read it but I hear that its pretty losely based off of that book. Its just that, many things that happen, and more particularly the manner in which they happen and the manner in which the story is told or these events are portrayed, seem a lot like lots of anime I've seen.
You start with kids in school; in class, having fun. Well; from there, I guess explaining some other parts of the movie could be spoilers for people who haven't seen it (even though its years old already), so I'll stop, but I wonder... for all of those who have seen it, if you look back on it, do you see that style too? |

The movie The Matrix was heavily influenced by anime. The style of the action that was at the time pretty much completely absent from mainstream American movies was based a lot on anime. Its my understanding that at one point during the making, the directors even showed some anime to some of the other people working on the movie and basically said "we want to do this".
I've also heard from several sources that a scene in The Matrix where a bullet misses Neo(I think) and hits some nearby watermelons is a tip of the hat to a similar scene in Ghost in the Shell. My Matrix knowledge is not the best and someone else may be able to provide more info than I. |
