It's going to be interesting how this changes the dynamics of the Memorial Day Weekend cons, because it won't be too far for some people. That weekend already has Anime North in Ontario, Animazement in North Carolina, and Fanime-Con in California, only 380 miles to the north of Los Angeles.
Some potential attendees of these other cons might skip them and head to Los Angeles instead. The truly zealous ones will do what some people did in Memorial Day Weekend 2004: hit Pacific Media Expo in Los Angeles for two days, and fly to Fanime-Con in San Jose for the last two days. (Actually, one of the performers did just that to appear at both cons.)
Memorial Day Weekend 2007 is also when Star Wars Celebration IV takes place in Los Angeles less than 4 miles away from JRR, but I don't think there's much overlap between the J Rock/Stormtrooper scenes.

Well, actually... ;- )
I haven't bought my Fanime ticket yet, so perhaps I'll attend this show instead. Although I'm not terribly fond of anyone performing, I feel like I should go just to support the J-rock scene in the states. I highly doubt this will lead to Suga Shikao or even Laraku coming back here anytime soon, however. *chuckles*

Dang. I already registered for Fanime and have plans with a group of people to drive up to San Jose for it Friday morning... And yet, on that same weekend, Miyavi is going to be performing six miles away from where I live.

Alice nine. comes to the states and I have to live on the wrong side of the country.
I hope J-Rockers in general tour more venues in the states. =/

or as I like to call it "visual kei a-thon."
maybe if it was on my side of the country and included more diversity I'd go.

Maximum was just here, right next door to me in fact at the Queen Mary in Long Beach. So maybe they'll come back soon closer to where you live.
It is a visual kei-a-thon, isn't it. Ah well! I just hope if this venture succeeds that will be a good indicator to record companies that there *is* a market for asian music in the states and we'll see more diverse acts here soon.

Oh wow. This is really suprising. o__o
I don't listen to much visual kei, but it is quite unexpected. But i guess if you're Yoshiki, many things can happen...
It's quite late of an annoucement too, Memorial day is only a month away.
This however I would expect to be an influential moment in jrock history. If this goes well I hope to see other bands coming here ^____^ *prays for more L'Arc concerts*

You and me both.
I suppose it's just too much to hope for that they take a brief break from the upcoming tour (ohhhhh how I wish I could be there this summer!) to visit their loyal American fanbase...*giggles*

My goodness... Vidoll, Kagrra,, AND MUCC performing at one event in the US? Be still my heart. I've already got my tickets paid for at Fanime... but I'm seriously contemplating going (it totally helps that Vidoll is one of my favorite bands). As long as the airplane tickets aren't too expensive, I just might go.
(Oh yeah, and that double comma up there after Kagrra isn't a typo, the comma is actually part of the band name )
