Most likely a very old topic, but has anyone heard of when Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) will be re-released? The announcement by Funimation was May of last year, almost a year ago and we haven't heard anything since. thanks

That'd be very nice, because I honestly can't stand the quality of Tokyopop dvds.

I think FUNi will only redistribute. I don't remember hearing anything about reproducing. But considering the Tokyopoop versions are out of print, they might at least reauthor the DVDs to better quality.
I spent $160 combined for the two Tokyopoop box sets and $50 for Initial D (and no one told me that box was only the first 15 episodes!), so I'll be mightily pissed if the FUNi version is better (which won't be too hard to do; all they need is a little video remastering and good subs, and I'll be sold  ).

According to someone on an AoD thread, the Initial D discs are the exact same. I guess that means they are just redistributing.
I don't think anyone knows as of now. IIRC, the Inital D set kept getting delayed so who knows when we'll see GTO. I'm hoping it will be soon followed by a nice cheap Marmalade Boy release. |
