Bah, just as long as its on tv we'll be happy. We already missed out on most the TCM anime, so this will make us feel a little bit better.

Pan & Scanning animated films should be a crime. I just saw Mononoke on DVD like two days ago and I cannot imagine watching it in anything but widescreen, even though my TV is small and standard size.
You'vre not just cutting off a bit of background, your cutting off hundreds of images that were painstakenly drawn, painted and photographed one by one. Even if it were a 3D film, each detail is specifically placed there for a reason. It's a part of the film, not just something that happened to be there while the camera was on.

Well, if pan & scan is really untolerable by many, then I suppose people who've downloaded fansubs of shows which were broadcasted in full frame (e.g. Ah! My Goddess TV, Black Cat, etc.) must be hit bad.
[O.T.: And partly for this reason, I'm positive that lawbreaking fansubbers who rip DVDs when they're licensed are sure to rip DVDs of the anime that are released in their original aspect, as well as already ripped and subbed the TV broadcast versions.]
However, I too agree that cropped presentations aren't the full experience.

I'm watching this right now, and I don't think I recognize this version of the dub. It's mostly the same, with minor differences, and the title screen is the original Japanese. It's neither the DVD or theatrical release (which are identical). For example, when Jigo asks Eboshi if Ashitaka was in Iron Town, in the theatrical/DVD, Eboshi goes "Came (she turns) and left". In this version, it's more of a literal translation, since she simply said "was".
Also, when Ashitaka was talking with Eboshi after she scares away the apes, she says Princess Mononoke, but in this version, she said a literal English translation, saying "Beast Princess", or something like that (sorry, memory fails after 30 minutes).
Anyone willing to shed some light on it?

Also, the songs are in Japanese. My guess? YTV got some kind of rough cut version since they got it through Alliance Atlantis rather than directly through Disney.
Also, the fact that the film aired uncut with a PG rating and no disclaimers pretty much crushes any claims that censorship is a necessity on YTV.

I'm suprised that they did'nt give it disclaimers. In fact, they gave it a PG rating.
I hope that this decidsion does'nt come back to bite YTV in the butt.

I was incrdibly surprised at that too. I started watching expecting there to be ridiculous edits, but was amazed when all the scenes of dismemberments were kept in.
