That can't be right. You can get a PS5 Disc version in the UK for 70 quid?

Well no, as it's just the disc drive only.
Even so, I just looked on major UK retailers and most are at £100 for the disc drive.

I added a note in the article to make this a bit clearer hopefully, but yes it is as the other commentor noted just for the disc drive itself, not for the console.

You are lucky if you can find the disc drive at retail anywhere in the UK most of the time, the scalpers are still buying up all the stock they can. I was lucky enough to pick up one on the PS Direct store, but they were sold out again shortly afterwards.
At least the scalper price has been coming down steadily - the cheapest on Amazon UK was going for £117 yesterday - so I'm guessing enough units are entering the market that the scalpers are competing with each other now.

First console generation to raise prices as time goes on. Absolutely wild. Also only Sony is doing this so so them making really any excuse other than greed is kinda funny. They're the leader in the market but the only one apparently "Struggling" enough to warrant price hikes.

People are not going to like this. PS5s have always been expensive enough. At least 75 million people won't complain though as they already have one.

You may as well buy a PC at that point. Any moderately powered desktop would be comparable.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm not in the UK, but I was simply incredulous at the possibility of a PS5 being that low. I've needed to upgrade from my slowly-breaking-down PS4 for a while now.

They got burned by the PS3, which was a bargain. And are on the record saying they've had trouble cutting costs of manufacturing. I doubt even Nintendo wanted to sell Switch 2 at that price, and you know they are charging it at a comfortable profit.
I think the demand for servers, crypto and AI is making tech costs shoot up, so PC parts and consoles for gaming are being affected. That and the continual devaluing of all currencies by governments.
