Love J Balvin for his music and being a big ally to the lgbt community. Even so this is random af. This is the second time he has worked on an anime. The first was collabing with m-flo for a theme song to that scifi Lost Human movie people hated.
I noticed Sakamoto Days also had some celebs in the cast. I wonder if dubbing is actually paying well these days. |

Why wouldn't you want him in the Spanish dub? Wouldn't casting him in the Spanish dub make it more attractive toward people that don't watch anime in Mexico, and other part of Latin/South America? I mean what happened if that really help and boost anime viewership in Latin/South America if J Balvin was casted for the Spanish dub. I'm a little confused why you wouldn't want him in the Spanish dub? |

Because there are good voice actors out there, we don't like people outside the medium playing roles just to "attract viewers", last time that happened was when Paramount got a famous youtuber to play Sonic and didn't turned out well. It's been like that for over 50 years, we don't want them to change that. |

Don't known if there a huge correlation between anime/webtoon fans and fans of Balvin music, and speaking as a Latin American Spanish-speaker, the presence of celebrities, or startalents as we call them, in dubs/voice acting, has been a hot topic of debate among dubbing fans for many years. The presence of celebrities is already controversial in Western animated films, ever since Robin Williams voiced the Genie in Aladdin studios kept pushing celebrities to voice characters in animated films, some do a great job, but there have also been many occasions in which it didn't work. In Latin America most dubs are done by professionals, but most of the times when they hire a celebrity to voice a character in a movie, instead of actors they hire musicians and in the last few years they even hire YouTubers/influencers who aren't actors. In Latin American Spanish anime dubbing there hasn't been that many instances in which celebrities have done dubbing, the only major instances where the dubs for Netflix's Saint Seiya (they replaced the celebrities for professional VAs when it came to Crunchyroll) and Baki the Grappler, among others, and the only time where I felt that a celebrity did a good job was Alfonso Herrera as Baki and also as the Gray Heron in The Boy and the Heron, also, for Blue Lock's second season they invited two famous Mexican football commentators to voice actual commentators in an episode, but there it actually made sense. There's also the issue that people think Crunchyroll is wasting money in hiring celebrities, when instead they could've spent it on improvements on their platform, this has been an issue even before they were bought by Sony. Not to mention that dub voice actors don't get payed that much, but they do pay celebrities much more. |

Uh, I'm not sure if you listened to audio drama podcast, but were you aware some of your Spanish-language audio drama podcast have voice done by some of your famous on-screen and movie stars lending their voice to these audio drama podcast? For example, the Spanish-language adaptation of Batman: Unburied aka Batman Desenterrado had some famous on-screen movie stars voicing the characters like Alfonso Herrera voicing Bruce Wayne/Batman, Barbara Gordon voiced by Ana Brenda Contreras, and you have Zuria Vega voicing Poison Ivy for that particular audio drama. I can say the same for Wolverine: The Long Night aka Wolverine: La Larga Noche, Like Batman: Desenterrado/Unburied, that one also had a Spanish-language version adaptation from the original English script, and that one had again well-known on-screen movie star/actors lending their voice to the characters like Wolverine being voiced by Joaquín Cosío, and other actors like Bruno Bichir, and Ricardo Chávez lending their voices too. I don't understand, you don't want celebrities/actors in Mexico or from any part of Latin/South America doing voice acting for anime, but you have famous Mexicans (or any Latin/South Americans) on-screen movie stars doing audio drama podcasts adapted from original English version scripts like Batman and Wolverine, why would you not want movie/TV stars or telenovela stars lending their voice to anime (how do you know some of them could be big anime fan), when Netflix have started to get some celebrities voicing non-Ghibli/non-Miyazaki anime titles. Why don't you give them a chance to voice-act for anime just like you allowed them to do audio drama podcasts? |

Famous people who are not actors by trade doing dub voices is kind of a divisive topic on latin america. flame wars can start at times at the sugestion of it Sometimes with actors things can get ugly is fans don't think they did a good job is a messy matter. |

I didn't even knew audio drama podcast were a thing. So you did your homework, very impresive! I got other examples, Ricky Martin dubbed Tarzan in the 1997 disney movie, in which the actress and singer Lucero played the role of Jane, few years later Monsters Inc. got Andres Bustamante for Mike Wazowski and Victor Trujillo played Sullivan and I can give you more examples but the thing is those are actors or actresses with a long career, J Balvin isn't one and just we don't like it as you can see it on Twitter/X nor you have to understand it. |

And what do they think of movie stars doing audio drama podcast like I pointed out in the above post? If they have objection over them doing voice-over on anime, why do they not have any objection toward audio drama podcasts? It reeks of double standard. You know after Netflix start to put several high-profile actors to do anime dub project, you know Netflix and other Spanish/Latin American dub companies will start replicating this with their respective celebrities to do the same. I have a feeling that J. Balvin being put in the English dub could open up the possibility of putting professional on-screen actors for anime voice-over the same way they did for audio drama podcasts.
It sounds like you never listened to audio drama podcast you know like how in Japan there are audio drama CDs, yeah it's the same type of format but in podcast. I'm kind of surprised that you didn't know that audio drama podcasts exist, and yes there have been audio drama localization like Batman and Wolverine, and you got Case 63 which is a English-language remake adaptation of Caso 63 from Chile. The English version of Caso 63/Case 63 featured well-known celebrities like Julianne Moore, and Oscar Issac lending their voice to the drama podcast. Case 63 demonstrate that adapting and localizing an audio drama from another script in another language (from Spanish to English) is almost no different then dubbing an anime from Japanese to English or Spanish. I'm getting off topic, if you can have well-known movie or TV stars doing audio drama podcasts, then they shouldn't be barred by fans for not doing anime voice-acting, that applied to Spanish-speaking TV/movie actors. If I was a Spanish-speaking anime fan that became aware of these audio drama podcast and heard about the actors involved, yeah I would give these TV stars and on-screen actors that do audio drama podcast a chance to shine on the anime dubbing project like what Netflix is doing on their side for English dub of anime when it comes to using non-anime VAs to do the dub. I would give them a chance. |
