On ANN's article. Alex, you wrote:
The shoot 'em up arcade game debuted in arcades in Japan in September 1992 and in North America that October.

So I assume this game will get a US release for Arcade Archives given that we have the Mazinger Z arcade game on the Arcade Archives catalog, right?

Assuming they get a license from Harmony Gold, since HG has the rights to everything related to the original Macross and DYRL outside Japan.

Yeah, the SDF Macross game will likely remain Japan-exclusive, though making a JP PSN or Switch account isn't hard at all, and the ACA release includes the "Super Spacefortress Macross" international version. It's also not alone, in that regard, as there are two other JP-exclusive ACA releases: Fighter & Attacker (a.k.a. F/A, likely due to its usage of real-life fighter jets) and Marvel Land (apparently because Disney copyrighted the term "Marvel", so no one else can release anything with that word anymore, except in Japan?).

However, Hamster did also just announce that the arcade shooter based on Macross II will also be getting an ACA release, and that game will likely get an international release, since Macross II is 100% Big West's property worldwide. After that all that would remain is the arcade shooter based on Macross Plus.

I had no Idea there was a Mazinger Z top down shooter, and better yet, you can pilot Grendizer! 10 Rocket Fists out of 10 for me!

@fuuma_monou, @Lord Geo

Well, we'll have to wait and see if the North American Arcade Archives will get this particular Macross title. I wouldn't be surprised if we get this, I mean we have gotten games from Japan that never had previously been released in the US nor received any English translated version like this one for example. The Mazinger Z arcade shooter game had both the Japanese and the international version in the same Arcade Archives download.

Really!!! You didn't know Mazinger Z game was made available on Arcade Archives North America for sometime. It was there since Nov 2023, I'm not sure how you missed that. Do you not have a PS4 or Switch nor didn't you bother to look at Arcade Archive's website more often?

Please try to go to that website more often, you never know an arcade game based on an anime/manga IP could make it into the US.

About F/A/Fighter & Attacker from Namco, I don't understand what the usage of real-life fighter jets in the game would have to do with it not getting a international re-release given that Namco's other series/franchise, Ace Combat uses real-life fighter jets too, and Namco had no problem releasing Ace Combat with the real-life fighter planes in there. Hell, even Call of Duty (particularly Modern Warfare sub-series) and EA's Battlefield series used real-life fighter planes in there too, and I didn't see any big lawsuit regarding that nor had any problem releasing that game the features real-life fighter planes & weapons. So I don't understand that.

Also about Marvel Land, that doesn't make sense (other then it never had a prior international release before) for it to not get release worldwide just because the title "Marvel" is in there, Disney nor Marvel doesn't own the word. Look I can use the word marvel without being associated with Marvel super heroes, etc... If Disney and Marvel is making the case for the game to not be released, then that game shouldn't be release in Japan too based on this argument given that Marvel and Disney has a big presence in Japan (Tokyo Disneyland Rolling Eyes ). How the hell does Disney/Marvel can block a game from getting an international release and yet allow this game to be only released in Japan despite Disney and Marvel have huge presence in Japan, that doesn't make any damn sense at all.
