They really nailed. Megumi Han switching from her innocent persona to Kenshiro was really fun for Nokotan's personality. Koshitan worked with her really good based on her reactions and how in the finale she starts training the deer like Rocky

Nokotan was one of the few anime from last season that I watched in its entirety and I enjoyed it. I can understand why the director would be surprised that the show became popular worldwide, but at the same time I feel that nowadays people are more aware of Japanese humor and shows with plenty of weird situations like Nokotan tend to become popular on the Internet very easily.
In regards to the comments regarding language barriers, here in Latin America Nokotan received a Spanish dub which was heavily promoted by Anime Onegai, and the dub itself tried to adapt some of the jokes into references that the Latin American audience would understand, for example, there's a famous song called, "El Venao'", which means "the deer", and even before the show aired, plenty of Latin American users made videos adding the song to Nokotan's footage and it became very popular in social media and the dub itself made a reference in one of the episodes, though it's not the first anime dubbed into Spanish that made a reference to the same song. What I mean is that sometimes it's kind of necessary to adapt dialogues in comedy shows and movies so that they can appeal to viewers in other regions. It is said that only visual or physical comedy makes sense in all languages, but I think there're certain comedies that do trascend the language barrier or that at least can be adapted to work in other regions. |
