Last time I was wondering why the announcement was made with the manga, it was because it's adapting the manga and not the LN. I'm fond of GoHands despite their infamous situation so why not it's a genre they aren't used.

Man. I had hoped after Masterful Cat and Glasses Girl that Gohands had learned to moderate their style, but that PV pretty much sunk all my hopes. Classic Gohands in the most nausea inducing way. Sucks that I found the manga to be pretty decent for what it is. I certainly preferred it to, for example, 1HP munchkin, and another game system that I don't remember the name of.

That camera panning was so aggressively GoHands, I had a good laugh Laughing

It's almost admirable how dedicated they are to their signature style, critics be damned. It makes me wonder what the Japanese think about the studio, since I only hear of the Western side of things.

Wait. What does it mean it's adapting the manga but not the LN? How does that work?

It must be great to be this incompetent at what you do and still have people repeatedly throwing money at you to make stuff.

I dunno, isn't TenSura the same? And some other anime? Possibly Shangri-La Frontier, I can't remember.

I guess it depends on how much difference there is between LN and manga, and which the anime hews closer to. Only story I have any substantial experience with in all three mediums is The Apothecary Diaries -- the anime draws a shitload from the Square Enix manga, but there's enough material in the anime that that manga left out, and enough ways it's informed by all previous versions, that I think it's still more accurate to call it an adaptation of the LN.

Shangri-La Frontier was never adapted in the LN format commercialy, so it not counts at all - and Tensura surpassed the manga available material back in the second season before it took a long break with third, so it wasn't really straight adaptation of manga either.

But it's not the first case at all with recent things - 7th Prince anime was actually the manga adaptation instead of LN because it considered superior in terms of popularity following mangaka character designs and specific art techniques - and there also coming the I am Behemoth anime which is manga adaptation - for a reason of LN discontinued the publishing prematurely.

Its not that uncommon, often the stylings of an anime will use a manga over the light novel drawings, Full Metal Panic is an example (it also closely followed the manga for season 1). Tsukimichi is another example of taking both the style and additional story elements of the manga and adapting that, until they ran out of the material and went back to the light novel mid season 2.

I rather liked Masterful Cat (but not Girl Who Forgot Her Glasses), so my hope with Heavy Knight is that they are going with their house style on the trailer to draw attention, but will moderate it for the actual show. If not, meh, it'll just join the ranks of bad isekais. And I like isekais, but everyone knows there's a pretty good percentage of them that are dreadful to deeply mediocre. So one more of those isn't going to matter much. Still, better if the show is entertaining, good or bad. If it's as terrible as the trailer makes it look, maybe it'll even be a new X-Arm. I wouldn't mind that.

Good heavens! Of course the MC is deemed worthless yet is secretly OP. And why shouldn’t the male be fully clothed while the females dress like ladies of the evening?! The unending barrage of mediocrity won’t end. GoHands should really gohandsoff anime and fade into the abyss. That studio is only good for creating those nauseating shots in video games.

Responding to SinisterOracle (who speaks for many, many people, so my remarks are not aimed specifically at them), I have to admit, I never get the "I hope they go out of business" thing. Certainly you're entitled not to watch their wares, but past that, if enough other people want to watch their stuff to keep them afloat--and if they don't, they will go out of business on their own--then certainly that's fine. Not everyone has to support everything, but I don't see how your life would be materially better if GoHands went out out of business. People create things I'm not interested in all the time, and it's no skin off my nose.

A lot of shows (admittedly, mostly ones that aren't great) have women dress that way because many, many fans like to look at pretty women. That's fine too. If it loses a show more fans than it attracts, that sort of thing will die a natural death. Otherwise, again, why wouldn't you? You're satisfying more customers, which is kind of the point. Different strokes for different folks.
