Hmmmmm I guess I’ll get Dawn Of Sorrow this way as it’s the only one of the three DS CastleVania games I don’t own.

It is kinda weird Haunted Castle is being foisted on people for a fifth time.

It's because M2 literally remade it (alongside including the original), and immediate reactions are that it's actually really good.

Apparently this is a remake of Haunted Castle similar to Castlevania The Adventure: Rebirth was for the original Game Boy game called Haunted Castle Revisited.

I replayed, well, all of the DS games earlier this year on original hardware, but the Haunted Castle remake is an unexpected bonus (play it for the soundtrack!). Guess it's time to recreate my perfect saves for each one now. Laughing

Well, nice to see the DS games, and any Castlevania in general, finding new life.

I recently bought the last two Castlevania collections, so this is great timing.

Could just give us the remake and ignore the original.

Like how Capcom ignores the arcade version of Bionic Commando.

And even then it still comes off as out of place in a collection built around the “DS” era CastleVania titles of which Haunted Castle was not apart of.

The inclusion does actually make a certain amount of sense... if you open the sound test. Haunted Castle was the source for a number of tracks in both Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin. (And its specific arrangement of "Heart of Fire" was remixed in Aria of Sorrow.) It's probably the worst 2D 'vania, but its soundtrack had almost as much staying power as the original's. You can think of it as an appendix of sorts.

First, this was M2 & Konami's choice, so deal with it. You can just ignore that it's there, man.

Second, Capcom has literally re-released Bionic Commando arcade multiple times in the past, most recently in Capcom Arcade Stadium, so they've never "ignored" it.

Third, Castlevania: Dracula X was literally included alongside the GBA games in the Advance Collection, so there's already precedent for out place inclusions in collections like these.

What perplexes me is that why hasn't Konami released SotN for the Switch.

Especially when Rondo of Blood was on the Wii Virtual Console.

Up until then (and a few years before with Capcom Classics Collection & CCCR). The only way to play the game was on a bunch of home computers which I can only imagine the ports of that not being any good. Compared to some of their other arcade titles they’ve rereleased on numerous platforms it does look like they tried to run away from it for a period of time.

I’m well of the precedent still questionable.

Just like when they did the Requiem Collection and despite featuring material from Dracula X Chronicles. Chose to only include the original version of Rondo Of Blood. Ironic with the fact that Chronicles had ports of both Symphony of Night & the original Rondo Of Blood as unlockables.

So yeah I’ll deal while still calling out the puzzling logic involved.

Fair?

Was the phrasing of "3 DS Games" in the title intended to be confusing, or was it just a happy accident?

I have been seeing reviews state that the drawing segments can additionally be completed with button presses. On the tech end of things, there's no port issues, so this seems like a slam dunk of a purchase. All three are without question some of the best in the genre.

Everyone always points at Symphony as the must-play, but honestly, I think Symphony is only superior in atmosphere. Portrait is the standout of the three in terms of straight gameplay, but Ecclesia has one of the more solid boss finales in the series, and Dawn's extra mode is incredibly unique and a must-play for Symphony fans.

This is definitely a good question with no answer.

So busy pissing on Haunted Castle I overlooked the collection came out day of.

And the Gyakuten Kenji collection comes out next week.

I love being broke right now.
