Animeigo had also released Otaku no Video on VHS back around 1993. I still have my copy that I won as part of the "Ultimate Otaku" contest Animeigo and Protoculture Addicts were running at the time (anyone with a copy of Protoculture Addicts 26 I recall can see what I did).

I wonder this this is like the Great Gatsby in that I was introduced to it at a point in my life where I didn’t appreciate what it was trying to say. /shrug. I do recall not finding this remotely enjoyable when I watched it on VHS in the 90’s.

I already bought the previous BR for this, but I don't mind double-dipping.

Going off of the description, I think it uses the same discs.

I've seen it several times since it came out in the 90s. It's like a different movie every time, because every time I'm at a different point in life, with a different perspective. I suspect that the next time I see it, nostalgia will be the big emotion. Technology has changed fandom in so many ways since it came out, and looking back at how things used to be done before everything got so easy should be interesting.

It's not, it got re-authored by Justin's team like Riding Bean & Megazone 23 got, and in the latter's case, not once but now twice.

Pre-ordered this back in June. My first time seeing this was on a rental VHS, it was one of the first anime I rented in the 90s. In 2002 I got the DVD from their booth at Otakon. Unfortunately the DVD has a bad chapter that causes it to go back to the menu, but i think going directly to the chapter worked (can't remember, haven't watched it in probably 20 years). Looking forward to this much needed upgrade!
