Given the first episode I will very likely be watching more of the show, probably the entirety. This is in part due to the wonderful animation, the quirky (though more on the annoying side of it) characters and how the group of loser heroines will grow together. Above all though, I will be watching because it is amusing as heck to see Kazuhiko deal with so much bullshit. The man can not go anywhere in or out of school without attracting more bullshit that he has to deal with.

This was a very pleasant surprise for me. I like the "What happens after the harem comedy is over" approach. Like the characters a lot too. And, as mentioned by El Smurko, the show is done right. Well designed, well drawn, well animated, nothing too flashy or too poor quality to distract from the charm. The cafe was lively. f sunset on the roof scene was pretty. This season might not have as strong a line-up as last season, but last season didn't really have any romantic comedies that I liked, and this season has three that have started out well.

I did find the first episode surprisingly funny, but I will admit being distracted at some point in trying to figure out the whole ribbons thing. They don't seem to denote years, since people in the same class can have different pairs of the four ribbons that the female uniform has.
I will admit I like the first girl for being.... is the word bitchy? Calling her supposed friend a "soggy cow", at least according to subtitles. |

I might be wrong, but I think she's just become so emotionally unhinged from repressing so much shock and heartbreak that she's opening the floodgates now that the MC,has provided a release valve. Y;know how all of us have momentary thoughts and impulses that flash through our head but we don't act on them or verbalize them? Ummm...we do all have those don't we? If not, I'm just kidding. Anyhow, I think she's basically uttering every delusional, selfish, altruistic, realistic, bitchy, saintly, despairing thought that goes through her head from moment to moment, which is why she's not noticing when she contradicts herself. . |

Yeah, I am really loving this show. Almost every character is quirky and messy making for some absolutely hilarious situations. This includes the little sister giving of some rather dangerous vibes and Lemon learning the status of her very dense crush. Anna is the most hilarious one with how she can switch moods on the drop of a hat and is probably never going to get out of her food debt (though she is creative with her meals).
The mc will probably not have a single moment of peace ever again and has to deal with loads of surprises/bullshit. The animation is rather stunning and the OP fits the show. |

I was struck by how good the animation was too. Last week I didn't really notice because I was enjoying the story so much. Not that I didn't enjoy the story this week...it was just that the spectacular animation was hard to miss during the sprinting sequences.
I'm loving this anime. It's a new angle on some old tropes, and it's easy to see that the creator(s) is having fun with it. |

I was trying to figure out who the clubmate was into, thinking it was the glasses girl, but the headpat thing makes it look more like it is the guy she is convincing herself they are just childhood friends.
The already has a girlfriend bit was great. But at least she found out. |

Komari seems to be another winning (or should I say losing?) addition to our hapless heroines. I know she was mostly just making excuses for hanging around a spot because president passed there every day, but I found the mildly depressing conversation about the quality of school drinking fountains pretty hilarious.
I also found the fact that the local shop owner's association has been viewing our protagonist's lack of a social life as popular gossip because of his little sister amusing. Of all the winning couple tropes so far, I've found the pervy but harmless club president and the hard hitting vice president of the lit club the least obnoxious. Maybe because we actually get to see them as characters pre-coupling. I think this is my favorite anime of the season. Even though it has some established tropes by way of making fun of them, every episode has felt fresh to me. And geez, the animation/art is topnotch. |

After three great episodes I think I am with you in that it is my favorite show of the season too. Not a single moment feels boring and it switches between being tropey and making fun of them rather well, that said, the show also has plenty of genuine moments. It also helps that every single character they add to the party offers something of note. This week the horror vibe lady of the student council was a fun surprise.
As for Komari... yeah, that is not going to end well and we will have the three rejected musketeers form a group. I wonder how awkward it will get in the club though. And yes, it looks and sounds amazing. |

It's nice pacing, nice animation and a solid and funny story. Nothing feels overly forced. Well. Can't wait to see the inevitable failure of our heroine and the club set-up next week.

Huh, well the Komari confession fallout was actually not all that bad. Sure, she was rejected in the end but it was not messy and we all knew who blockhead Shintarou was going to end up with (he really is a blockhead). They were also quick to make sure that the club was going to stay together and the residual awkwardness will probably fade over time.
The Anna and Nukumizu situation was messy yet despite being pretty melodramatic I liked it because they kept it amusing/funny. It also solidified the two as friends and showed that the four mc's are a group now. I read that this episode is basically the end of the first novel and it does feel like that with the basic set up now completed. |

Yah, things got a little tense with Yanami in the middle of this week's episode, but I thought they did a good job of balancing the legit insecurities and the comedy. It wasn't as annoying or over the top, for example, as the episode in Dress Up Darling where Gojo was trying to flee from Kitigawa because people were wondering what a loser like him was doing with a popular girl.
I found Komari's gleeful commentaries on the situation pretty amusing - she's an interesting character. In some ways Komai is as contradictory as Yanami - she can be harsh and bitter and cynical, but then she can also be sweet and shy and read a room. I think the difference is, Yanami switches from one mood to another as if someone was clicking a remote that controlled her emotional states instead of TV channels, and Komari is more about showing hidden strength in a clutch. . Good stuff IMHO. |

Episode 4
This is an incredibly well done romance show. In fact, of all the many romance offerings this season, this is the only one I've kept... unless you count ATRI: My Dear Moments which I'm also enjoying. The problem with ATRI however is that I suspect it's going to end up breaking my heart whereas this one won't, I don't believe. I love that the characters in this one actually engage in drama as opposed to the usual indirect, beating around the bush style of so many anime romance shows. I groaned a bit when the hackneyed, "I want to protect you from rumours so we can't be friendly" trope came up but I felt the show handled it very well. I really enjoy the characters facial expressions, especially Yanami's. Good stuff, indeed. |

Every season seems to have a predominant genre. Last season was all about idol shows, and this season is romance heavy. We're due for a sports season sometime soon.. Right now, I've got three romances that I'm really enjoying. Days With My Stepsister isn't a comedy, and I can see why some might not find it their cup of tea or be in the mood for it. It's got a melancholy, subdued quality, but I think it's beautiful. After this one, it's my second favorite show of the season, and a pretty close second at that. I'm also really enjoying Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian. Personally, I don't think it's on the same level as the other two in terms of originality or animation, but it's a lot of fun. |
