I keep seeing Fate Zero's Alexander the Great in the red-haired djinn, which I guess would make Arajin into Waver.

I'm curious as to whether there are other viewers out there who hate Arajin (so far) as much as I do? I'm getting Jobless Reincarnation flashbacks here: love the show, despise the MC. He's such a douche to both Matakara and his own mother. I completely sympathize with Matakara's friends who are all like, "why you wanna with this dude?" I really hope Arajin becomes more palatable to me because I like everything else this show has to offer.
Oh and it's not just you, Nicholas... I cringe every time I see the phrase "Honki People" pop up onscreen, too.

I also hate the “Honki people” phrase and wish they had chosen something else, but I also understand it has a different meaning in Japan than it does in the US.
I think this show is funny (mostly). I don’t care for Mahoro (it was clear she was a problem child from her first appearance) one bit. I don’t like her appearance or how she speaks. If I was straight, I wouldn’t give her the time of day. Arajin gets annoying after a while. It also speaks volumes about him when the first thing he does is fall in love with the first “cute” girl who talks to him. Clearly has some screws loose.
Also, why do all anime guys have to wear the ugly boxers? Anime girls are usually put into sexy (sometimes cute) bras and panties, but guys get stuck in the ugly boxers (that sometimes look like board shorts due to their length). It’s frustrating when you’d like to enjoy what you see but your immediate reaction is “ugh”.

Feels like this was made by the same people who worked on Sk8 the Infinity.

Cause it's only done for "comedy" not for fanservice.

So about Arajin's butt mark - is that an artifact of suddenly acquiring a djinn in his life, or is it a birthmark that suggests this is his destiny?

All I can say is that Ataru…I mean Arajin…is as dumb as a fish that flops on a dinner plate.

At least the cliffhanger at the end of the episodes seems to be moving the story onto the track that we all expected it to be on. Bring on more Honkies!

Fish flopping on dinner plates all over the world are highly offended at your insinuation that they are not actually smarter than Arajin.

I am very intrigued by Mahoro, I'm hoping she's not just a brocon...
And I also hope Arajin either drops his crush on her or develops actual more believable emotions towards her. I know he's a teenager, but the joke on his virginty is getting old real quick.

I'm probably stating the obvious, but the running joke of the embarrassed teacher ducking into the host club...it's a cat cafe, right? With actual cats, right?
Have to say, the WWE style "group date" was pretty fun, or at least pretty to look at. Hopefully once glasses guy's djinn targets Matakara to get at Arajin, which seems to be what they're setting up, the latter will finally come to his senses and stop being such a shithead.

It has to be. I didn't pay it any real attention until recently since I didn't care if a teacher went to a hostess club, but when they keep, it has to be leading there. I'm not sure why the joke is being drawn out so much, but then again, we have a main character who hasn't moved past shouting about his virginity when he throws a punch, so maybe overly long jokes are its thing?

The director for Sk8 to Infinity and the writer for the Fruits Basket reboot really had me expecting peak anime. Sadly the show feels like it’s going nowhere and I’m on the fence about just dropping it.

Agreed. I would not have lasted past the first episode if not for the production team behind it, but they seem to be stuck in a rut and I despise Arajin so much that with every episode my interest wanes that much more.

I'm really not sure what to think about Matakara's brother. We went from "He got knifed and we don't know if he's going to make it" last week, to "He ded, Jim" this week. If he did die, it's a real waste of a nice character design (and for as briefly as we knew him, he seemed like a really charismatic guy), but moreover, you'd think there'd be at least one shot of a memorial service or something. Wasn't he the founder of their gang before he got sent to juvie? Matakara seems like the only person who's sad he's dead; everyone else is just bummed that Matakara is sad.
I'm also wondering why he's been seeing black shadows since he was a child. Did he have evil in his heart from birth or something, as Ichiya suggested was what he was seeing?
