It is rather bold yet antiquated to reveal that the "Player Character" for this anime adaptation to be a dude. I would have thought that they would have to write around that, make him/her shadowy, or make them a female.

What's the point of having an option to pick the female sensei in the gacha when the manga and the anime has the male sensei as the canon one? Japan is very sexist and misogynistic when it comes to this. I am so sick and tired of these damn franchises (especially when it's female-dominated) choosing the male self-insert over the female one. Idolmaster, Kancolle, FGO, GBF, Uma Musume, and now Blue Archive. Even Atlus openly said that they won't bring back the female MC for Persona 3 Reload because it would be expensive and take a lot of time. So far, only Love Live has the big balls to go for the female self-insert. This outdated "cute girls and crap male self-insert" BS seriously needs to end!

I feel your pain, buddy. I hope all the hardhitters this spring will overshadow this self-insert piece of crap. I hope it flops so hard.

I was really hoping that for once, we would get a female MC. But no, BA just had to pick a super crappy boring male MC because its predecessor did so. They all don't have faith in female MCs because they won't make huge profit. Why bother making the MC's gender customizable when all other media will turn it into a male?

All I have seen is people begging for sensei to be shown so im not surprised he is in. I'm also not sure why people thought sensei would be female when every adaption has shown him to be male and the writing in the game all but states that he is male. Anyway I'm happy they finally showed him this design looks pretty good.

So why does the game lets you play as a female sensei? Why bother having that option when sensei is heavily implied to be male anyway?

Probably because the most work adding said option in the game would entail is if the characters address you as a boy or girl. Once stuff becomes canon and they have to show it on screen in an adaption then they have to choose. Happens all the time in adaptions with games based on a character creator or multiple protagonists or a visual novel adaption that picks one route to adapt.

Do you have a source for these franchises being "female dominated"? Because every time these companies put out a chart of their playerbase or there's some kind of survey they usually skew heavily male. A quick Google search shows the 2017 survey for Cinderella Girls has a playerbase of 79% men and 21% women for example. Unless you're talking about the characters themselves all being female.

It makes total sense to do male MCs in these kind of harem/self-insert type of games and anime since these kind of gacha games are mainly targeted at guys willing to drop tons of money on their waifus.

This. As much as I want to see fem MC or both sometimes, most of the gacha games (unless specifically aimed omn female audience) have majority of male players. Aboutv 40% female players with Love Live was a big surprise as far as I remember. And generic gacha male player prefers either self-incert generic male MC or none at all in the anime.
