Maybe they are thinking of making even more Seed anime, spin-offs, etc...
Probably so that people don't get tired of Gundam because of so much UC. |

That's what struck me most about the article, do Bandai and Sunrise really think Gundam SEED Freedom will be that successful outside of Japan? Just as an example, did The Boy and the Heron also got released in that many countries after its premiere Japan? I know the original Gundam SEED and Destiny were huge hits in Japan, and I think I've heard they did pretty well in China, but I don't know if it's that well know in the rest of the world. I live in Latin America, and SEED never got dubbed into Spanish or Portuguese, it didn't even got an official release with subtitles, and I guess you have to had at least some familiarity with the previous two series to understand the movie, so the hype levels are non-existent over here. Don't know how popular is Gundam SEED in the U.S., I know the show got dubbed twice, but I've heard it isn't as well known as Gundam Wing, or as popular as other Sunrise mecha shows like Code Geass, and while the Witch from Mercury was a hit in some aspects outside of Japan it's a completely different Gundam series |

I don't think it'll get a wide release like Boy and the Heron did....it's likely going to be more akin to the Fathom Events where only select theaters carry it. My city almost never gets these smaller anime movies. Gundam Seed was definitely really popular when it came out and it's fans remain strong. |

Yes. Even if the film was broadcast for a limited period of time or to a limited number of theaters, it was broadcast in that country, and we are not lying. Rather, it is important to declare that the film will be released internationally in order to reach a certain number of fans. Otherwise, the information will not reach the fans. That said, the Gundam series has been putting a lot of effort into international expansion in recent years, and even if we don't get many visitors, we will choose to continue showing the film in various countries. This may lead to future popularity. Constant dripping wears away a stone. |

It's not even whether Gundam Seed will get bodies in seats, it's about overseas growth. Nothing is profitable overnight, and they deem it worthy to continue investing in it. That means releasing movies with potential upside due to previous popularity until something sticks.
What would they consider acceptable loss? Anime has seen a boon in popularity (at least in the United States) through the years. I say, "Why not try?" if there's money in the budget. It's pretty common practice by US studios to release a mix of sure-fire hits and some expected duds. |

But talking specifically about the Latin American market, at the pop culture convention La Mole held in Mexico, a Bandai representative mentioned that they were in talks with one of Mexico's biggest TV channels to broadcast G-Witch with the same dub that was made for Crunchyroll, perhaps Bandai will try to dub more Gundam shows into Neutral Spanish, I think SEED's remastered version would be a good choice |

It was expected of this movie to start breaking records considering the popularity of SEED and the long wait for the movie. I expect it to have long legs in theaters to be the #1 Gundam movie now and in the distant future.
