Well, if there's just a little bit of human feces - I mean AI generated content - it should be fine to consume and certainly won't set any precedents.

In all seriousness, the game industry has shown time and again that if they're allowed to do something to a minor extent, they will very quickly do it to excess. DLC as we know it started with a piece of cosmetic armor for a horse, and we laughed at it - but didn't actively fight it - and look where we are now. Even if we take Squeenix at their word, which I see no reason to do, this is something to fight at the lowest levels so that it never gets to the highest.

I really wanted to play this game. I reeeeeeaaaaaaally wanted to play this game. These AI elements reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaally should not have been the deciding factor for me turning the game down. But alas, I am a starving artist and I cannot support a game that utilizes AI art built on art theft in place of human artists. As the above comment points out, it doesn't take much to start a trend. I don't hate AI art as a concept, but midjourney steals art from other artists to create its work. That is simply not okay, no matter what angle you look at it from.

RIP my most anticipated game of 2024...

Okatani states that the majority of the game, including its core gameplay and designs, were made by humans and that only "0.01 percent or even less" is AI-generated.

HA! Laughing What a joke. Absolute not, Square Enix. That's a big fat NO from me. You knew many of us would react poorly to learning that there'd be AI-generated/stolen assets in the game, so you felt to need to assure us that there's only "a tiny, tiiiny bit. You won't even notice it". Not good enough.

Wasn’t even interested in this game in the first place due to how poorly mashed-together its Splatoon x Fortnite elements are so this isn’t a big loss for me.

Any game that uses AI assets shows that the creators didn't care enough to put the time and energy into the game. Hard pass.

The main character's design always reminds me of Mori Calliope and I always mistake these photos for her.

I'm not one for multiplayer games, let alone ones with battle passes, but I wonder how this one will turn out. I completely missed Capcom's Exoprimal coming out so I don't know if it's successful or not.
