Supernatural action. Not the most original genre around, but viewers who want something entertaining to forget about the day can do no wrong with this series if the first episode is anything to go by.

Itadori Yuuji is one of those who's incredibly gifted at something yet chooses not to pursue it. He cares about his grandfather regardless of how ornery and cranky the man is; said grandfather's sudden death has a considerable impact on him (he even calls it a curse, those last words).

As the unlucky bystander who gets caught up in events not of his own making, his story now begins as the incarnation of Ryoumen Sukuna. Last I remember, a very powerful demon and not something you want to be the vessel of. If Itadori succeeds in surviving being exorcised and can keep his new powers on control, this series should get increasingly interesting.

The blindfolded one talking to Itadori Yuuji shows up in the OP animation and in the next episode trailer, so he's probably someone important to this series.

Wow, how did I miss this thread? This was one of the premieres that really grabbed me, so I'm glad it's a two-cours. I happened to come across the first two volumes of the manga in a second hand book store, so I scooped them up. I am also watching InuYasha these days, so I'm super primed for peeps who fight demons/yokai/etc.

I thought the blindfolded one was a senior student, he's actually Fushiguro's teacher. Thing is, his mannerism and appearance wouldn't convince me he was a teacher unless explicitly stated. Whatever he is, he's strong. Also very confident in his own abilities (full-power Sukuna can be beaten with difficulty?! After describing Sukuna as the king of curses? What is this guy?)

The Academy they reside in has few students, unsurprisingly. One of the new ones is the girl in the OP and at the last part of the episode, so it's her turn to get the spotlight next week.

The Headmaster is quite the character, but he's got a point. Those who enter this line of work have one of the toughest and nastiest professions and way of life as it stands, so testing them to see if they're cut out is a spartan but necessary rite of passage for prospective students.

Sukuna with the multi-eyes will probably be a character in his own right, assuming Itadori lets him out long enough for him to talk normally without trying to kill someone.

Can't wait to meet the Girl of Steel! I get the sense she's going to be a handful. I really enjoy the humour of the show like when Blindfold Guy assures Itadori he'll work something out about his execution and we cut to the next scene where he immediately says the execution is on and Itadori notes the difference between what was said in the "recap" and now. Second episode showed that the first was not a fluke and this is going to be a fun ride.

Once in the heat of the moment is one thing, but actively deciding to do it makes our main character a cannibal, right?

And the whole separating the fingers seemed to be to specifically stop them from gathering, and that would be what they are doing in making him eat them all.

Hey, Itadori isn't a cannibal!

...

He just likes finger food, okay?

*rimshot*

And as Blindfold said, the rationale for keeping him alive is that he can sense the fingers and they figure they can kill him (and thus destroy Sukuna) before it becomes an issue. It's not an entirely dopey idea given that Itadori has demonstrated he can surpress his inner Sukuna.

Blown away by how cool and stylish both the OP and ED are. Definite standouts of this season. Show is pretty great as well.

Kugisaki has a terrible personality, but she's not as bad looking as the scout made her out to be. It's easier to empathise with her as well because of her background, although her new schoolmates don't know about that part of her yet.

She's got a background in curses, so that's why she applied and was accepted into the school. Compared to Fushiguro's hounds and Itadori's latent curse, hers is more conventional using the cursed dolls and nails. On the flipside, she's probably helpless without her tools unlike the males (Fushiguro is in trouble if he's concussed, while Itadori has restraints because of how unique Sukuna is).

Now that the first-year students are assembled, it looks like the series is going to pick up the pace with new story arcs. A juvenile detention facility beset with a curse and an incident which cost a previous first-year student's life should raise the stakes more than a simple haunting in Roppongi.

As expected, I like the Girl of Steel including her bad attitude. I hope she gets to meet her friend Saori again. Interesting that her back story reflected the provincialism of the countryside. You don't often see that reflected in anime where it's more usual for countryfolk to be intimidated by somebody from Tokyo as opposed to bullying them.

As the person who did the synopsis translation, was I anywhere near the ballpark on the name of the curse? I'm guessing not, so let me know the official translation and I'll go in and fix it.

Do you translate place names like Konigsberg into "King's town" or Alexanderplatz into "Alexander Plaza"? If you do, good luck finding an appropriate translation for a quintessentially Japanese folklore monster whose name isn't meant to be deconstructed into different meanings based on the characters. If you don't, simply change it back to "Ryoumen Sukuna".

Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't, depending on the context. I haven't seen the show, so I just want it to match whatever the official subtitles at Crunchryoll say.

Personal opinion: Translating Ryoumen Sukuna word for word makes the synopsis nonsensical.

If you're anally retentive about being consistent with what is available in other official sources, stick to Ryoumen Sukuna because it's not something you translate. Since you don't even watch the show, it won't matter to you either way.

@ vashfanatic - the show does not translate Ryoumen Sukuna. It just refers to Ryoumen Sukuna's finger as the curse. Sounds like Harleyquin is correct and there simply isn't any English equivalent that would make sense.
