Small typo; it's Mike McFarland.

Also, it's great that the English dub is in good hands. Before the cast announcement, I was anxious to know who would be leading the charge, so when I heard it was Mike McFarland, one of my favorite voice directors, that anxiousness became genuine excitement. I'm familiar with everyone in the voice cast EXCEPT for the leading man, Ryan Colt Levy (I haven't seen the latest MHA movie, in which he plays a large role). From the dub preview Crunchy released, I thought he sounded alright, even if it wasn't quite the voice I was picturing for Denji. But if it's as you say, and Ryan really pulls out all the stops, then man, I can't wait. I'm honestly more excited to hear the English voice actors go all out than I am for the show itself. I love it when voice actors hold nothing back Smile

Yeah, while it would be very difficult to list all my favorite directors currently working (even more so if we count the ones who have since moved to primarily pre-lay work like Mary Elizabeth McGlynn), I can say without a doubt Mike McFarland would be on that list. Not going to go through his entire resume here, but the man really knows how to tap into and bring out some completely guttural, visceral performances from actors while still perfectly fitting the series' tone (i.e. heightened/over-the-top vs realistic/grounded). He was my number one choice no matter what studio ended up producing the dub.

The focus of this episode was overwhelmingly on Denji, and I will say that I am so happy for Ryan. He's been slowly making a name for himself during the past two years and it's about time he got a main role like this to really show off his range.

Actually feel the same way, even when Ryan was cast in the MHA:WHM film to an extent. Too many actors with plenty of wonderful performances under their belt have to wait too long to get an opportunity like this. Rejection for any number of reasons (maybe your vocal print isn't commonly suited for anime leads?) is just part of the business. Even the aforementioned Mike McFarland, who's been a part of this industry since the DBZ days, only just got his first MC with ODDTAXI's Odokawa. So I love seeing an actor who's put in the work get a shot like this and soar.
