I wonder if Fumi will do more than alien gibberish? Although in flashbacks and the movies Lum's Mom did speak Japanese.

I am very disappointed they didn't show Ataru's father with his newspaper.

The casting did not disappoint with Toshio Furukawa and Fumi Hirano playing the roles of Ataru's father and Lum's mother. I was hoping that they'd do this, although, I would have had Fumi Hirano playing Ataru's mother instead of Lum's since Ataru's mom appears more often than Lum's.

Very glad to see Ataru & Lum's original VAs cast as their respective parents. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if we get some vocal call-backs to their original characters in the new series from them - especially from Fumi Hirano, who has been such a versatile VA throughout her career.

This is my thought too. Lum's Mom is mostly non existent and while Ataru's Father does not say much he still has more screen/page time then Lum's Father (who might have more lines then Ataru's Father). I'm still hoping they adapt the 2 chapters with Ten's Mom because those 2 chapters with her were hilarious.

I also thought Hirano would be voicing Ataru's mom. I was expecting Tessho Genda for Lum's dad too.
That being said most of these characters have parents for the older cast to play so here's hoping.

I’m guessing that whoever wrote the article might have been under the assumption that the people who would be watching this were already familiar with the original series and already knew who the original VAs were.
