BASTARD!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy- (ONA) Genres: action, comedy, drama fantasy, supernatural Themes: dark fantasy, demi-humans, fan service, gore, isekai, monsters, post-apocalyptic, sorcery Plot Summary: Modern civilization and the world was destroyed by the God of Destruction, Anthrasax, in 7 days, and then is sealed. Hundreds of years later, the sorcerer Dark Schneider leads a group in an attempt to control the world. Dark Schneider, in the end, is sealed in the body of a young baby, Rushe Ren Ren. 15 years later, his group, minus Scheider, attempts the same mission by unsealing Anthrasax so they can redo the world. To save the Kingdom of Metallicana, a girl named Yoko releases Dark Schneider from her friend Rushe. Now, Dark Schneider fights his former comrades, but not for good; he fights to protect Yoko, and to have some destructive fun. Episodes 1-13 - June 30, 2022 (Netflix) Episodes 14-24 - September 15, 2022 (Netflix) ---------------------------------- Watched the old OVA for the first time a couple of years ago. I thought it had potential, but felt it was really short (only 6 episodes), and it was a little difficult for me to take anything seriously because of the comedy and fan service. Also had no idea the manga was still ongoing, either, so that's kind of a bummer. But here's hoping the new series is a little better than the old one. Will check it out, at some point. But I'm not gonna' rush out to see it over some other top-ranked shows I feel I need to catch up on. |
