Ahahahaha. Ikuhara's at it again. The trailer is cut to look like it's just a clip show, but there are enough out-of-context spoilers to imply that this is a sequel, picking up right after the TV series' ending, exploring what happened after the boys used the Penguindrum. Maybe his work on Sarazanmai is what inspired him to revisit Penguindrum?

This series remains one of the most insane journeys I've ever gone on. I really hope these films come west sooner than later.

I saw Penguindrum for the first time recently, it is my favourite out of Kunihiko Ikuhara filmography that I've seen so far, I have not yet watched Revolutionary Girl Utena.

I consider Penguindrum a masterpiece, but I still don't see the point of these movies.

Well at least as far as the US is concerned, Sentai's release and translation of the TV series was notoriously awful, and the dub was pretty bad outside of Emily Neves as Ringo and Monica Rial as Himari, so if this could help to rectify any of that, I happily welcome it

Literally why. This whole thing was the weirdest nonsense i've ever watched and i call it worse than any Isekai.
I would give anything to get the time back i spend watching that.

This is no master piece. Its garbage and a train wreck that contradicts and disrespects its story and chars, esp chars and there isn't any message it tries to convey either, even if there were, its done infinitely better than in this garbage. It had so much potential, and it was wasted. I don't have any good things to say about it that won't get swallowed up by how awful it was and it only gets worse as it goes. There's a reason why many don't like this and a reason why those who enjoy this, like it for what it is cus thats what they're into, train wrecks, seeing chars suffer and BAD story. And thats fine if anyone is into that, but to call it a master piece? Yeah, no. lol That's all I have to say about this cus am not gonna waste my time on this any further, this series was a LARGE waste of my time and left me fuming. If you decide to watch this afterwards, know u were warned, or, if this is the kinda thing u'r into, then u'll enjoy it am sure.
Also, knowing this comes from the same guy who worked on the worse Sailor Moon season (SuperS) and how he wanted to make the SuperS movie something that contradicted its chars and lore, it shouldn't be a surprise this is how this series turned out. I also refuse to watch anything that guy makes, or has made going forward, as great as I hear Revolutionary girl Utena is, all ic an see is it turning out like SM SuperS and Penguindrum did.

In that case, wouldn't it be more convenient for another company to license and redub the series? I think Sentai no longer has the license.
Or we could just forget about Penguindrum and Ikuhara because apparently both are trash.

What are you talking about? The themes and messages of the show are repeated throughout. It’s all about fate, whether or not it can be changed, and sacrifice.
Penguindrum is one of my favorites. I hope we get the movies over here and that there’s enough bonus content for me to want to collect it. I’d also like to see Monica Rial and Emily Neves return for the dub. Kanba will definitely have to be recast. Shoma’s dub VA I can take or leave.

Sure, thats the theme it has, not a message. I'd also like to add that that "message" was made entirely pointless by the Penguindrum which can alter fate by taking on the fate of someone else of which, that TOO was handled poorly cus instead of a straight up 1 to 1 transfer, it just does its own random thing so the fate is entirely dif when transferred and sometimes small or big transfer, but never the exact fate or the severity of said fate. So what we're left with is a story that has chars suffering and the rest of what i said. I have nothing left to say, if u believe this has some message and it tells it well enough then great, but there are MANY like me who know its "message" is done poorly and isn't really a message.

The show is still streaming on HiDive to this day, so Sentai most likely still retains the license for the US. Also while Anime Limited's recent release of the show in the UK did offer a new subtitle translation (and also fixed the bad encoding of the Sentai release), it still apparently kept the Sentai dub, and while the dub is pretty bad, there are no technical issues plaguing it that would make it worth the extra cost of a redub (especially since while the shoe was decently popular while it was airing, it's pretty niche now, and a new dub probably wouldn't make back the investment).
A different company licensing and dubbing these compilation films is a much safer and more likely bet comparatively (though having complained a lot of about Sentai's release I wouldn't be totally opposed to them getting these since they'd probably do a better job releasing and dubbing it this time around)

It's been far, far too long since I've seen the series, so could you share what makes you think so? Besides the safe money on Ikuhara being incapable of producing a simple recap movie, anyway.
