Concert rehearsal? Other than the last guy, the rest are part of idolm@ster cast. SideM has live tour starting this month, and Shinymas live in October. |

Working? Seiyuu are basically constantly at risk, considering that their work is being holed up in a small, non-ventilated space together with other people, making loud noises. Add to this things like concert rehearsals/etc, and the way Japan's vaccine rollout has been going (or rather not going), and you have, well, a situation. |

Going from a recent podcast I listened to, it sounds like they aren't auditioning in bigger groups like before, but the recording for episodes is still mostly the same. People might be masking, but they are still spending quite a bit of time in the recording room, anyone speaking isn't going to wear a mask. Add in that Japan is lagging on vaccinations, and it was going to go bad. A lot of places either acted like it should be basically business as usual or jumped back in too soon.

Yeah, no way. For that you have to build a proper soundproofed studio/booth at home with proper equipment; otherwise there's a very audible difference. A lot of voice talent who do mainly commercials or long, relatively monotone jobs like audiobooks, do this, but you can always hear when one of them doesn't have a proper studio or proper equipment. Not to mention, different studios and different equipments produce different sounds, so when you have a cast, if everyone records in a different studio on different equipment and process it on on different hardware... that's going to be absolute chaos, audio-wise. With voice actors who appear in shows, etc... no way. Even if they have a proper recordign booth/equipment at home, and considering how much seiyuu make and how many of these guys are not big-name veterans, it's unlikely; but even if one of them has a home studio, voice acting is not a solo job. You have to take instructions from the voice director. The director also tells you if your reading was off, if you were too fast, too slow, you mispronounced something, you were too loud, too quiet, sounded too sweet, too angry... yeah, no, this is not a job you can do from home and produce any quality whatsoever. (And before someone comes for me, yes, I'm sure some studios have tried or even are practicing this, but you can't produce the kind of quality this way that would be OK for a show where the voices are one of the main draws.) |

Well, we have another victim to this huge mess.
Voice actor Takeaki Masuyama, another SideM VA who voices Suzaku Akai, has tested positive for COVID-19. He and his agency confirmed this on their official Twitter accounts. https://twitter.com/mascandal_0414/status/1428584041012293636?s=20 |

I hope they can all remain safe and get the treatment they need to properly recover.

If this is true, please explain dubs for the last year. Both Finimation and other studios have set up their actors and actresses to record at home. Most of MHA season 5 was done this way. I at least have never noticed a vocal difference. I hope I don't sound rude but you seem like you don't want any argument judging by your last sentence |

If you have read my last sentence, and even my post, and then go out of your way to say that Funimation/etc. set up their actors/actresses - then what are you even asking me to explain? They gave the VA the equipment, so it was, most likely, more or less uniform hardware, software, etc. Being in the US they likely had the space at home to be able to set up a booth to record. Also, I don't listen to anime dubs so I've no idea what the end result turned out to be like, obviously using the same equipment and a well set-up recording booth helps smoothing things over. And maybe you and most people don't hear the difference or they don't care. But as someone who has worked in the industry for much of their life, I'm willing to bet money that the quality wasn't the same. Maybe I've listened to enough dubs done on different equipments, not properly set up studios or hardware, etc. to know what they tend to be like, no matter how hard the sound engineers work their magic. But hey, OK, you're right and I'm wrong, the seiyuu could just record at home and they don't do it because they like to risk their health. |

Jeez, I just offered my opinion. This is a forum, you are suppsoed to discuss. Maybe they can't I don't know, but you act like this is impossible. Also, you don't experiance dubs, yet you assume that the recording is bad. You just did exactly what I did, and assume based on no evidence what was possible. You seem really aggresive about this topic. If you didn't want a discussion, then maybe you should not have posted. Again, sorry if I may have offended you. |
