Oh my God. I've been a huge fan of his for decades. This really sucks. Those movies he made in the 70s and 80s are legendary.

Agreed. I would pick up random martial arts and action movies all the time from then, and Sonny Chiba films would be must buys every time. Quite saddened to hear about his passing.

The man was a living legend in the entertainment industry. I know a lot of friends and people in the west here that got some of their first introductions to Japanese media from Sonny Chiba films. We all pass on eventually, but losing him like this just seems so pointless and not fair.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't one.

A serious shock. I know him from his role of Itagaki in Furin Kazan. What a pity. I hope his children are keeping calm through this tragedy.

No more "Hatori Hanzo" the Katana Master Maker for Quentin Tarantino Bride sequel (lingering in movie limbo ever since Miremax folded years ago)...
Probably for the best...
This guy was too good, even for the Kill Bill Franchise.

That's awful. I haven't seen any of his work myself, but I absolutely knew his name as a legendary actor. The fact that he was 82, it's now August, and he still wasn't vaccinated is just deplorable though.

What a freaking legend. Dude had six blackbelts, established a school to train people for action films, and was in everything from low key horror films to big blockbusters. Stuff like The Street Fighter series, Battles Without Honor and Humanity, Samurai Reincarnation, Shadow Warriors, dude was all over the place.
PS. I don't wanna hear a thing about him from Abe, Suga, or any of the LDP.
