Funny I thought they just got out of tax evasions charges a few years ago.

If you're going to stash the cash first you need to cook the books. Smile

To clear up confusion, this is not a new incident of tax evasion, it is just a continuation of the proceedings from the last time they were in the news about this.

Fun Fact: Just in case anyone isn't aware, ufotable is actually pronounced U.F.O. Table.

You know, like all the money this guy hid under the table. Razz

If I'm understanding this part correctly, he was straight up taking cash home with him? That seems like the type of thing that is going to get noticed eventually when the receipts don't match what is on hand at the end of the day.

I've heard of stupider instances when it came to someone trying to launder money but forgetting what laundering actually entails.

Police say among themselves "criminals are stupid". Now, I don't believe too many people believe that they are actually universally of shockingly low intelligence but when they do things like Kondo-san here, it seems a reasonable explanation. I believe there is a sort of self-delusion that comes over people committing crime that what they are doing will not be discovered because of how they plan and fail to consider other possibilities that include how they could be caught. Probably a good thing that Demon Slayer is going so well so they could just pay the fine and Kondo-san could avoid jail...

It works if they were reporting receipts of credit card sales and only some cash sales, basically saying they were doing less business then they were actually doing. That may mean that other ufotable employees were in on the scheme.

No, they don't. The common phrase is "We only catch the dumb ones".

And in Kondo's case, that's very accurate. Storing stolen funds at home in a safe probably wasn't the best choice.

Or that over a decade of working on Type Moon adaptations might be more recognizable to a different group of fans.

I mean that person has somewhat of a point. I get why news outlets do it frequently but then again the first mention of ufotable in the story was a link to all their past works so was it truly necessary then?
