57 is too young, what a tragedy. I watched BECK and Paradise Kiss (both classics that are absolutely worth watching) really early into my anime fandom, and I still have both sets on my shelf today.

He directed one of my favorite episodes of Lupin III Part IV, where Lupin finds himself in a dreamscape, observing Kou and Rebecca. RIP.

We really are worse off for losing Kobayashi-san and I'm sad we won't see any more of what he still had to offer. RIP.
Paradise Kiss has been woefully out of print for too long, but I do own a copy of BECK so I'll try and watch a few episodes tonight. |

Damn, that's a real tragedy. He had such a unique voice and approach to anime. Paradise Kiss in particular is one of the best shoujo anime ever made, and Beck still holds up today as well. It's such a shame that we lost him so young.

He was one of the most peculiar animators out there, with a style that always stuck out even when he worked on visually offbeat shows like Kemonozume. To me, however, his biggest talent was as a director, and I wish he had directed more shows and movies. May he rest in peace.

I’m probably in the minority but I liked his work on episode 15 of Dororo. He also did a great job with Dororo’s 1st ED. |

I liked it too and it moved more than the average Dororo episode. An industry that tends to play it safe I'm all for experimental visuals. He was one of the most unique voices, one of a kind. He'll be truly missed. |

I enjoyed most of the shows he did, especially Paradise Kiss, and I wasn't bothered by the visuals in the 4th episode of Gurren Lagan at all. He had an unique vision of visual storytelling which broke the mold of the same old.
