I had the exact same reaction to this title as what Rebecca did, including about the eye-opening twist at the very end. I will only add that I'm pretty sure that Nonoria is meant to be the spiritual cousin of Titta from Lord Marksman and Vanadis.

Ditto. Except I found the hints at Marielle's crush on Albert, which he seemed to reciprocate (though reluctantly, due to class issues) once he knew she was a girl, to be a bit off. I'm not saying it was surprising - I've come to expect this sort of thing - but she was raised with him as her big brother figure from the time she was 5, I think. I would have preferred them to maintain that familial relationship, rather than pointing toward being eventual lovers.
Oh well, I don't foresee a conclusion, and I'm not about to play the game, so it's all water under the bridge.

I enjoyed this anime more than I probably should. I attribute it to the general dearth of fantasy/sword and sorcery anime that aren't isekai (not that I mind isekai, but it's nice to have a straightforward one for a change). I could have lived without the high pitched maid and the mascot.
That ending came out of nowhere. I was expecting them to tie it up in a nice generic bow with the good guys winning the day. When they killed Alfred, I was surprised they went there, but then the twist that he's alive due to Marielle's forbidden necromancy and he's possessed by a demon(or whatever the glowing red eyes meant)...that took a turn to say the least.

I agree that another cour would have helped. I know, King's Raid needed to be pared down, (those middle episodes...yawner). They can swap a bunch.

I loved this one to be honest but, I don't see it getting a second season cause I have an idea on how Albert was revived at the end. I figured he was revived by a mix of the magic in the air from the failed resurrection spell and Marielle's inherit magic. I think it's evident that this was planned for two cours but they probably were banking on this being able to make enough of a profit to finance the second cour.
From random Japanese trailers, I essentially learned that the game this was based off is on it's third season. The other two trailers look really cool. I would love a second season.

I wrote in my post about the series that a certain WTF moment of the finale was the villain pope for some reason turning into a female demon. You would think maybe there would be some thematic relevance, since the princess was dressing as a man during the majority of the run, and the whole witch thing.
