Just to note, the back cover of the set over at Right Stuf states "1080p 16x9", which shows that this is from a recent upscale in Japan that zoomed in the original 4:3 image to make it 16:9; I don't know when exactly Naruto swtiched over to widescreen, but it certainly wasn't like that from the start.
Whether this kills your interest or not is up to you, personally. |

It's an early digipaint show,so it's not going to look all that much better in HD, besides the upgraded audio.

These should not be only 27 episodes. This will take numerous of years to complete and thousands of dollars of spending.

It was episode 54 of Naruto Shippuden when the franchise went from 4:3 to HD widescreen. It's very noticeable on streaming. So that's 273 episodes all 220 Naruto and the first 53 of Shippuden that are SD 4:3. |

Yeah, I had a feeling that all of Naruto was in 4:3, but didn't want to just make a random guess. |

Huh? It's $40 a volume, likely completed in 8 volumes so that's around $320 full retail, but most places are selling it for cheaper. It's $31.49 on Amazon, that's around $250. As far as how many years it'll take goes, I haven't heard anything, but I'll be surprised if it takes more than two years, should be over by the end of 2022, just in time for the anime's 20th anniversary. He is probably counting shippuden which takes it to over 750 episodes . And looking at fairy tial on Blu Ray for example this could get pricey quick even discounted . |

Yes, I was definitely counting Shippuden. I'd rather have a collectors set with all of Naruto and Shippuden for like $400. There's going to be so many of these blu ray sets that will just have awful filler and that's why I stopped collecting the Bleach ones after volume 3.

Would you ask companies to charge $7.27 for a 13-episode series? Because on a per-episode basis, that's the equivalent of what you're looking for from the Naruto franchise. |

There was a complete DVD set Viz released of the original Naruto a few years ago but it was an FYE exclusive. It’s still available in stock on FYE’s site and it’s $234.91 for all 220 episodes of the original and the movies. They’ll probably release a similar LE set for the original Naruto on BD after finishing the season sets. I doubt they’ll do it for Shippuden though.

Definitely a deal breaker. I can't believe cropping is still a thing in 2020. Are people that afraid of black bars on the sides of their screens? |

That's what makes me the most hesitant until I see screenshots in full res. Most of my BDs from shows in that era look pretty terrible compared to modern shows on BD and shows remastered from film stock. If it's not going to look noticeably better than sticking the old DVDs into a BD player or watching the 480p streams on a HDTV, I'll just stick with what I have. With the costs, I was only going to be buying my favorite arc (Chunin Exam/Forest of Death) anyways. I'm way more interested in seeing what Shippuden looks like on BD because it started as a show made for 4:3 480p, then switched to 16:9 and eventually started looking like it was being made in HD but they only sold it on DVDs initially. That's actually why I stopped collecting it. |

Except this may be based off a 3 year old broadcast master that was previously hyped up here so it's not exactly a 2020 thing plus if I'm not mistaken, France is using that same master as well. At this point it wouldn't surprise if One Piece gets the same treatment eventually since Toei is still making use of those Special Edition masters from 8 years ago (see Crunchyroll & now Netflix). |
