So a cool grand for a box that can say welcome home, be an alarm, and turn on your TV. Far cheaper and more powerful just to stay with Siri/Alexa/Google/Cortana. It may be interesting to see this technology with a proper assistant. But even reading the specifications on their website the interactions with this device appear pretty limited.
Actually reading more this actually just seems an interface for LINE Clova. Anyone used it and know how good it is?

I'm intrigued by the concept of graphical personifications of AI driven programs like Cortana, Alexi and Siri, but Gatebox's marketing approach makes this look soul crushing and depressing.
A holographic Cortana type program is really neat, but advertising it as a waifu makes me want to drink my sorrows away.

Well to be honest, it really is the only way to market it at this stage. The problem with the device is that from what I can see, you would have to be really close to the device to actually interact well. Like crouched down and looking straight at it. If it could interface with a larger screen it may work better as an "assistant". But having it as a small hologram you have to "intimately" crouch down to actually look at, it is very niche device.
It does sorta have that ability in that it links up with your phone. But from what I can see that is messaging only and through the LINE app.

Personal avatars or assistants are the future. Science Fiction becoming science fact. Whether holographic or in your brain they are a coming. Probably too late for me.

It becomes a bit of a waste once you find out you can get an okay-ish sex doll for a little over $1390.

If I was gonna install a projected personification of a digital assistant in my home I'd want to make some system involving various screens and projectors (maybe that automatically retract and deploy as needed depending on where I was at the time in the house.)
So like the same tech they use for Hatsune Miku concerts except in the home.

They're quite nice to have around as a companion for the otakus until they realize the cold, hard truth that you can't have sex with them.

Exactly my thoughts. I was like, "This looks like a pretty penny, but if I want companionship, I'd pay a bit more for a realistic doll." Then I saw the price and was like, "Nevermind, the doll is cheaper."

That was the single most depressing thing I have seen on the internet in a looooong time.
If this is the direction of the future... stop the bus.. I'd like to get off now.

Personal assistants can be used for other things besides that. While some will use them as substitutes for actual humans, mainstream society will use them to assist with life in general.
