This is the Atuk of anime, I pray that this possible curse only attacks horses and nothing else.

Jokes about curses aside, 27 years old is quite a respectable age for a horse. Based on the article it sounds like a lot of the horses they used for the names were famous and now retired (and old) horses, so it's not surprising that they're dying. Still kind of sad though.
